A kid i know has a 1995 Mustang GT 5sp (with the 5.0 L engine but SN95 body style, so heavier than the old Fox’s) He has shorty headers, h pipe, flowmasters, GT40 intake manifold and 3.73 gears… he also plans to put a 100 dry shot on it (has even toyed with the idea of a 150 shot) What should this car run given good track conditions? he is claiming mid 13’s off the bottle with 12.7-12.9 on the 100 shot… i honestly dont see it happening… also not so sure i would want to spray a 100k+ mile 13 year old engine with a 100-150 shot but hey its his car… anyone have any input on this?
If he is a good driver its possible and the car is running optimal.
More likely it is a high 13 sec car off the juice and a low 13 car on the bottle.
well as of october, without the intake manifold he was door to door with a 14.3-14.4 sec stang… i was thinking at best a 14 flat off the bottle… i dont think the intake manifold alone will drop 1/2 sec?
No it wont, just saying…alot depends on driver and maint. of the car. An optimal running 95 could hit high 13s off the bottle on those mods.
But your average driver in that car would run those 14 second #s.
Worst Mustang years ever 94/95
yeah thats about what i figured… at least the 94/95 have the 5.0… the 96-98 have the non PI 4.6… a whopping 215 flywheel and you would be lucky to break 200rwhp with bolt ons
High 13’s on the bottle at best. Probably mid 14’s off. As far as handling the spray even if abused, I bet a 5.0 with over 100k could hold a season of 100 hp shots at the track.
when i had my 88 5.0 i was told buy a lot of guys that they can hold a 150 shot but not a lot if i was looking for a dd w/spray that a 100 would hold for a long time …i never got the chance but could have been fun
Easily…many people have put 5 liters through much more abuse than a stock motor with a 100 shot on it.
ive seen a bunch of guys make 450-500+ hp on stock bottom ends on 5-0’s but when they start making more than that they can split the block right through the middle. Thats still decent though
SNs = worst fox body ever. Same anemic (stock) powertrain, more weight.
Exhaust, intake mani, and rears means he could run 14 flat, but he’d have to drive it well.
alot of a Fox 1/4 mile is in the suspension. $0.02
well, if that car indeed runs a 13 or better, and I cant come close to that (im banking on the fact that I have less weight and more mods done to the motor itself to help ballance out the gains from a 100 shot), then i give up.
lol jim my car might be a high 12 no way he will be a 12.7 dont worry about it haha…unless he cam/ or head the car…maybe…but i dunno…need to see how it does alone with the intake w/o the 100 shot
you spray yours with the heads and cams your gonna get past the 400rwhp mark i know it… thing should pull like a freight train…you were running 14.3’s or there abouts at the 1/4th right? and you pulled on him… i honestly dont see that manifold getting him to the 13’s
this by chance isnt a dark colored convertible, is it?? when i was at NYI ththe one time i went this summer, there was a dark green (i think) SN95 convertible that the owner said had a 5.0. i raced him twice, and he would get me by about 2 1/2 cars but somewhere in the last 1/8 mile i would pull it back and put about a half car on him and my times were a tad bit faster. just wondering if its the same car.
nah its a black hardtop… i think i know the car you are talking abouth though… it was one of my last trips there for the season i guess the people there just stopped caring toward the end? People were going down the track with windows open, T tops off and i remember a dark green SN95 vert that went down the track a few times with the top down lol
not true
Absolutely true…Unless you want to talk about some of the 70’s mustangs.
Like the Grande…that was a pretty shitty stang too.
And any Mustang II…those were pretty awful too.
I am a huge mustang lover and the 94/95 just doesnt do anything for me. Actually all the way through 98.
That said…I have owned 3 Fox Bod 5.0’s and I think its just terrible the way they sent the 5.0 out with embarassing HP #'s and I think that sets these cars in my personal terrible file.
yeah i dont think it was the same night. my night got cut short by rain. but the guy in said green convertible came up to me after the 2nd time i magically picked up the distance and then started to pass him, and asked me what shot of nitrous i was running. i laughed and said none its just the way my car is geared (which is true, it doesnt do anything under 45 then it starts taking off)
r u talking about dave???
