Anyone losing weight over winter?

Im currently on a weight loss “kick”. I need to drop 20’ish. I started at 6’1" 209. From when i started im down 7lbs and i weigh in tommarow. Im loosly doing the “weight watchers” I know it’s lame but it does work if you stick to it. I try to work out when i can. But free time is HARD to come by with a new baby, and both the wife and I working. And trying to have some free time to work in the garage. I try to hit the treadmill 3+ days a week. It works slowly but it works. I need to be down by July for our Vacation :).

Good luck all.

Started my 20 week marathon running schedule this week! Weighed in around 178 @ 5’10", will see how that changes with all these miles that will be getting ran…but I’m expecting the weight to not drop off too much as I’m right around 9% body fat. Will also have to lighten up a bit on the beer intake…

how the hell do people run long distances? I just got back from a neighborhood jog. My route is 1.2 miles and I can’t even run all of it. FML.

Training, and the unillingness to quit. It does take a different mindset/person to just “run” and enjoy it. I’ve ran countless 5k’s, TONS of 10k’s, 3 1/2marathons, and Rollerbladed a Full Marathon. There are times that you “just keep going” Now granted i MIGHT be able to jog 3 miles now… but that would be pushing it. Im up 50lbs from my old racing weight!

Yeah man, it’s all about committing, usually if you can push through the point where you feel like you HAVE to quit, there’s a LOT more in you.

the thing i noticed about the HM i ran, is you get to a point where you go numb because you just hurt all over, and then its easy. it really becomes a mental game at that point.

i want to gain at least 20 lbs over winter

Once I’m about to give up, I tell myself “just 5 more minutes”… then I can do another 20 w/ ease.

^exactly!

I love running, I zone out completely and just think about stuff, kinda like when I’m out on the bike riding open country roads.

Also, tried on a pair of my 32 jeans that I haven’t fit into comfortably since last summer, BINGO! They fit

The last time I was this thin was when I was 17. I had to punch a new hole in a belt that I’ve had since college.

I’ve found my best successes with running come when I have someone to run with me. Otherwise I just get too bored as it’s definitely more a mental challenge than physical for me. Sure, you’ll go through pain when starting, but that goes away rather quickly and before you know it the miles are getting racked up FAST. Keep pushin yourself…it’s amazing what we are capable of. Shit, just watch the Biggest Loser…look at what they did for themselves.

nope, not lossing a lb

during winter time i gain weight and i start lifting. then come end of winter i start to diet and lose a quick 10-15 lbs.

I’m down 2lbs from the start of the year, but I’m a little stronger and faster.

here’s an inspirational quote from Kate Moss for you guys lol: “Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels…”

yeah ive noticed that ive gained some mass from doing nothing all winter. Sigh. I still weigh 185, that hasnt changed…but I have noticed ive lost some muscle mass and gotten a little chubbier. Time to start the cross country skiing lol. I always stay around 180-185 regardless of how much my muscle/fat content fluctuates (depending on the time of year as I landscape and work seasonaly).

it definitely gets easier once you do it more. i started running by getting on the treadmill and walking for 5 minutes, then slowly running for 1 minute, then walking for 1:30, then running at .5 higher, back to walking, etc. for awhile and then it became way easier to run longer.

I did track my senior year of hs. At the begining of the season I was dying from the warmups, as I was really out of shape. But like 3-4 weeks in I could run multiple laps around the track no problem at all. Start small. Give yourself a pre set distance to start (say 1/2 mile) and run as far as you can, then walk the rest. Keep doing this and soon you will find that not only can you run the 1/2 mile no problem, but you can go a hell of a lot furthur. Its all about making your body adapt to something it’s not used to doing. Once it becomes routine, it is easy.

i was up to 153 when i was in ny… im down to 145 now… ugh I hate that so much.

Been eating better and working out for a week now and dropped 9lbs already  27 more to go and I’ll be good to go!

Been pretty good for about a month and a half of working out - got a membership for BAC. Since I have been working on the house everyday after work, I have slacked off for 2 weeks :frowning:
