Preface:
Society Status was denied due to a couple errors in the application, but it’s been resubmitted and will hopefully be approved soon. A lot of the following items depend on this since it means we’ll have an NECC bank account.
Items discussed:
DTP Calgary Preparation
We need to get a firm list of all guys that can commit to going down there to show very soon so the DTP folks can have an idea of how much space we need. We’re mainly looking for cars that have little or no body damage. We also talked about having the NECC banner made, getting a projector to show video, hooking up a sound system, and so on.
April 16th BBQ
Not too much discussion about this one, we need to lock down who is bringing the barbeque. It would be nice if everyone who hasn’t done so already could post what they’re bringing so everyone has a good idea of what’s going to happen. If members want to bring footballs, soccer balls, etc, that would work too.
NECC Sponsors
Discussed was the procedure of how we’re going to convince more sponsors to come on board, the terms of what we will offer them in return for their fee, and the actual document and rules that they will need to fill out and understand. A special focus will be put on getting some sponsorship going in Calgary for the guys down there once society status has been granted.
NECC T-Shirts/Polo Shirts
Once society status has been granted, we’ll be getting the shirts made up. The personalization is still a sticky point, and it looks like any members wishing to have their shirts personalized may have to have it done themselves - more discussion to come when society status is granted.
Dyno Day
Mainly we talked about whether Apex is still around and whether we can book there. If they go out, the only option left is Eurasia who will likely charge a fortune to us. Emphasis placed on finding out definitively whether Apex will still around so the Dyno day can go ahead.
Flavio (Nis240) is now going to become a general forum admin.
Namao
Still waiting on the availabilty information at Namao - the person responsible for the facilities there isn’t returning calls. We also need to locate pylons and find timing equipment.
And we talked about some other odds and ends. Mostly about how to prevent Flavio from stealing other members girlfriends. :E
Give me one more day to try to reach her. One thing I don’t want is 500 people calling her to annoy her so we don’t get to rent the place. After that, I’ll pass it off to someone else since I’m having a problem getting enough time during the day to make the calls.
Especially when first starting out, its not necessary to get overly fancy and buy expensive timing equipment. Stopwatches would be adequate enough. Regular car club run slaloms are not official Solo 2 competitions after all. Just a thought.
I’m not sure what you guys are running for DTP Calgary, but I can bring my laptop, a shitload of cable and my big Sony amp/receiver. If anyone has powered subs they would probably be a welcome addition.
Speakers themselves, I only have little bookshelves. I’m going to call up my buddy who had some loudspeakers that we used to shake our house with using that Sony amp. :E
If there are any other ideas for entertainment stuff just let me know. I think that setting up a tent with the projector shooting underneath is something that will have to happen. It doesn’t need to be a massive tent, like 8’ x 8’, then sit a bunch of chairs around it, hook up the PS2 and the guys hanging around can have fun too. hehe
I have 2 500 watt speakers around here but no amp to drive them, so Matt if your buddy can’t lend us anything just let me know and I’ll dig them out here.
As for the cones, that’s not a bad deal. It’s too bad they are so damn expensive. :?
Should we test it out to make sure my amp will drive those speakers? It does a decent job in a living room, but who knows what it would be like in a hockey arena.
I realize that’s not very expensive, but when we’re picking up like 150+ of them, it’s a big chunk of change.
Also, 6" traffic cones probably aren’t going to cut it. Some people had discussed using them, but were a little freaked about the durability. They’ll probably get stuck under the cars and get chewed up too often. Someone said they were able to get a hold of the good tall cones for $6/each didn’t they? If we plan a track out on the comp we can figure out how many cones we’ll run.
I still wonder if it would be worth asking the city if we could buy some of their old cones. They have thousands lying around at different yards around the city.
Awesome Matt, thanks for the input. That would be great if we could borrow your amp. Kris will dig up the speakers as I hate to borrow things from people.
Ya, we’ll look for a tent, shouldn’t be too bad.
And I think Inzane is right, we’ll have to fire up the stop watches for now. But cones will still be an issue.
