Not really… he trades with other saltwater junkies and sells a little to local fish store. Yeah his fish room is in the basement and the tank is upstairs. Im scared to ask what he’s spent on his hobby.
I love salt water fish and love the idea of a tank, but the majority of tanks just look totally misplaced. Personally, i hate seeing all the filters and pumps, even the seams on the tank.
1.) Are there any custom tank builders out there? Not flat glass, but glass formers (i.e heat to different shapes?
2.) I would totally do an in wall setup (access to everything through a closet)
3.) If i do anything, i want to do a jellyfish tank and it would be in my basement, behind the bar or in the theater room.
Yes, plenty of guys out there that will do the “custom” tanks; they are $$ though, obviously.
I completely agree, these normally look the best as you can hide everything to support the “display” tank. Have the “clean” look in the display tank like most of the really nice tanks have.
Never seen one except at a zoo and it would look awesome!!!
I have a 220 and a 180 downstairs(not a basement lol)I really do want to get rid of one or the other just because of the humidity they put off. Also have my Turtle in a 55 Down there as well. Was thinking about turning the 220 into a turtle resort for my little guy since I feel bad he has to live his life in a cage.

FWIW one of the sweetest fresh water aggressive species you can find is a largemouth bass. I know I know, it is illegal to posess “gamefish” in an aquarium, but so is a piranha in ny, unless you have a permit. When I was younger my friend caught a little 6" bass and that thing was a monster in the 55 gallon tank. It would eat 10 goldfish at a time (or at least try to). He also had a small northen pike that we caught in a ditch. Just like a gar fish but it’s much more colored and a lot taller. It wasn’t as cool as the bass though, unless it was feeding time. The pike would slowly rise up above it’s prey and then angle down a bit, and then WHAM, it would strike! Pretty fun to watch, but most of the time it would just sit still.
