Are people out of their minds?!

Ive been looking for a clean S13 to pick up for my brother but after checking the autotrader for a month now, I am honestly amazed at the prices people are asking for 15 year old 240s!

There are like 5 S13s in the 5-7K range! No SRs just ‘clean looking’ Hot damn are people actually paying these prices for these cars???
The ones that are in the 3500 range are complete heaps, I have seen a couple and they are rusted out shitboxes but their ads say NO rust. One kid even had the audacity to ask me if I saw FnF3 since I rolled up in a Honda. Ironically he had a scrap coupe he wanted 3800 for. I would have valued it at 1000.

Im willing to pay for something that worth the money but 5K for a 12-15 yr old car with 200+ K is just ridiculous in my opinion.

I almost want to call these ppl to find out if their cars are selling for this price because I cant believe ppl will pay that when we have members here with clean and modded turbo 240s that sell for slighty more.

Sorry for the rant :?

PS - Even the koukis are priced high - 15K - OUCH

looks like i got the last good deal that will be on the trader for a while, 1992 le, minimal rust, sold with a bad clutch (seller thought it needed a new clutch but all it needed was to be bled  ) in good mechanical condition for $900

the age of the car has nothing to do with the price…

i agree they seem like they should be worth less money but the value is going up because of fnf and the recent (past few years) discovery of japanese rwd sweetness (drifting, etc).

i have a feeling our cars will hold their value nicely for a few years still

mine was a good deal on autotrader

s14 for less than 2G’s

you got that one in waterloo didn’t you? it was red and white. front end accident.

unless u got a 2g s14 that was auto. then 2gs is a fair deal.

S14s are even worse. Total stockers in not-great condition for like 10K and up, all the way up to 17K for a car that is old as phuck. Do people not realize you can buy an S2000 for like 20K?

they do, i’d take a kouki over an s2000 in a SECOND and I love s2000’s. But I love koukis more regardless of their slowless

Meh, you’re biased b/c you have a 240. An S2000 is a far better driver’s car.

i dont think people are paying that for them… the same 240sx’s have been listed for months now.

exactly, the age doesn’t matter, the point is that you can’t really buy a decent fun light rwd car these days anymore so that’s why 240s hold their value…

recent S-chassis purchases;

dec 2005 1990 $250 needed everything including steering column, floor/frame great, 170XXXkm
from a friend

Aug 2005 1991 $350 horrible floor, everything else mint 175XXXkm
off SON

April 2006 1995 $1600 blown motor, needs rocker panels, motor taken from above car, $1200 bodywork next week, 191XXXkm
Off SON

June 2006 1995 $600, 285XXXkm, needs inner/outer rockers, inner fender well welds, paint, seized clutch release bearing…
Junkyard find

Your best bet would be this forum, or stopping owners (old ones) in the streets.

to answer your question, Yes they are. For example I’ve told my sister (owner of the 191XXXkm 1995) her car is worth about $5000 once the bodywork is done, bone stock.

Are you telling me that the “East Coast Editor” of Modified Mag doesn’t have 5k to drop on a car?

No seriously, I picked up this month’s Modified Mag and to my surprise our very own “Kouki S14” is the new editor! CONGRATS DUDE! …so can you hook me up with some of those product models now or what?

Age does matter though. You think cars dont get tired after time? Just because its in mint shape or a RWD platform doesnt mean its going to hold up to abuse (like a track day) better than a car half its age.

I dont think for one minute these cars or any other import (exotics excluded) will hold their value. They depreciate just like any other car. Maybe in ten years they will become collectors but just take a look right now every import as it ages gets cheaper. Maybe I wrong but to me this is the way I see the market.

HA! I dont get paid big bucks, I cant afford to keep maintaining both my cars let alone drop 5K on an S13 for my brother. Its all for the love

oh and Im not the new editor just a political title change…bah, its all irrelevant. Same job, same duties.

Look at civics around the time the first Fast and Furious came out. The prices balooned like crazy and they still remain artificially inflated.

demand goes up… price goes up

there seems to be a real or perceived demand for S chassis right now.

yup same ppl that didnt even know what car i drove a year ago suddenly 2mnths before fnf tells their gfs n my sister OMG ur frend has a 240sx?omg ur brother has a 240sx? is he selling it?

thats when i laugh and just wish i had like 5 240sx and sell 4 of them

WTF?

lmao tokyo drift is everywhere XD

those 2 cars can sell for 7-8 grand… if the body is good

the sil40 looks nice in the pic…but hope he has more then wats listed done to his car…

the black one… he spelled brake …break… -___-

… well… hope some smart buyers look at our car selling section… theres alot of boosted 240s for sell as well… and in top notch shape

im not biased at all

s2000’s dont look NEARLY as clean
they’re convertable (aren’t they?)

for someone who drifts (not me) they could also add to the list that they aren’t set up as nicely for drift when they’re stock.

if you people would of looked at the prices for good 240s back in 2004 when the whole drift craze started you would see they are almost the same as today.
