The pretentious level at Apple stores is always off the charts.
Got my iPhone 3g on launch day… wife and I went to ATT Store on Delaware and Sheridan, they got like 5 phones total, needless to say we didn’t get them there.
After work went to Apple Store and yes you guessed I stood in line there from 4:30 until about 8pm when I finally had both our phones purchased and activated.
I am such a Apple whore 
I don’t know if I’ve ever stood in a line for that long. If I ever did it would have to be a free virgin with big tits and freckles giveaway or something.
Still happens with me on 3Gs at my office computer. I hear that and know there is a text coming in or going out.
I like ATT service. It’s been pretty good coverage. About the same as what I had with Sprint, but a bit better signal.
And just go to the ATT store to purchase the phone. Skip the Apple store. And if you are buying an Apple, you know you should come to me instead!
My girl has it, its slightly better than cricket, but places I have steady service she drops on and off.
AT+T is shit in my eyes, if you ask me, they are glorified tmobile and both horrible, verizon if your going to pay big dollars to limit your minutes.
I’ve never had much of an issue with AT&T however VZWs coverage does trounce AT&Ts in the North East though… :shrug:

I voted I have it and it sucks because I switched back to Verizon due to quality issues. I also switched our entire company to Verizon due to the issues we had with signal and sound quality.
Signal coverage was good, however quality was bad.

My personal phone is through AT&T. My work phone is through Verizon.
I work all over WNY from Lake Ontario down into Warren and Kane counties in PA. My Verizon always has signal. AT&T on the other hand, not so much.
Only really a problem in remote areas though.
I would go with AT&T just for the iphone though. It’s freaking awesome!
it has been rumored (my gf works for verizon wireless) that vzw will have the iphone available after december…

That, “the iphone is going to be on Verizon in a couple months” rumor has been going on for 2 or 3 years.
If Verizon had a chance of getting the iphone soon do you really think they’d have made their current ad campaign mocking Apple’s?
also, they just committed to a partnership with google to create android phones…they also went low-key on the announcement that they would be supporting open platforms. Most people probably missed that second one.
I have never had problem with coverage with ATT, I am a rep and used to cover most of WNY. Has always worked great.
