Ok so I finally get my car running again after flooding it out.
Then yesterday I start it up and I hear the Fuel Pump prime but it gives me this weak sound.
Then I notice the car hesitating. I pop the hood and notice my fuel pressure regulator is going haywire. It’s suppose to sit at 38, and it usually sits pretty smooth. (Even with all the vibration my car makes with the motor mounts and balance shafts gone.) But now it’s sitting at around 20-24 adn it’s fluctuating like mad. Then when the fan kicks in it even drops below 20 for a few secs. When I try to adjust the screw on top it makes no noticeable change. I’m like WTF?? Anyone have any top of mind thoughts as to what this could be? One day fine. Next day not.
Necause of the drop when the fan kicks in, I suspect a voltage problem. Check all sources of electricity under the hood, and check the amperage draw of the pump.
Take your multimeter and check battery voltage, with the vehicle off, and while it is on. At rest the battery should be close to 12.6 volts. Running about 13.5-14.0 volts. Check the voltage when revving, or whatever caused your fuel pressure to go down. Then I would check the wiring at the pump and measure voltage and amperage there. Many multimeters come with instructions.
Well i yanked the fuel pump out today. Turns out the feedline clamp had come loose and the line came off inside the pump. I would have been able to fix it if I hadn;t broken it trying to remove it. Ah well… at least I have the probelm solved.
Those of you who were anxiously awaiting an update can now get some sleep.
Yeah, unfortunately thats a short trip for me. :yernuts:
But yeah… it’s always the small stuff that drives you mad. At least when an engine goes and you’re picking your rods up off the highway, you pretty much know what you have to replace.
