1.6> TURBO STREET:
Engine Diaper or Engine Pan mandatory on all forced induction cars 9.59 and quicker. SFI approved 38.1 head and neck restraint system required for all 9.59 and quicker cars.
•SPONSOR DECALS: All racers must have series and or class sponsor decals as required by NDRA. Competitors can utilize a competing sponsor product / logo.
• CLASS: The class designation (T/S) must be on the right side and the front window in 3-inch tall letters.
• NUMBERS: Car numbers must be on the right side window in 6-inch tall numbers, and the front windshield in 3 inch tall numbers.
• BODY: Stock import or domestic compact car or truck body must be retained. Lightweight parts limited to hood, fenders and ground effects only. Fenders can’t be modified in any way, outside of trimming 1” from wheel well, to allow for a larger tires. Due to most sunroofs not being safety glass, sunroof plugs allowed. Cutting or drilling of body or chassis is limited to front bumper support to allow for installation of turbo intercooler, and rear bumper support may be removed. Removal of other components for purpose of lightening vehicle prohibited. However the fender wells maybe trimmed for tire clearance a maximum of 1 inch. Chop tops not allowed. Lexan or Plexiglas windows are prohibited. No tape can be used to join/cover body seams. Body or paint damage incurred at that event can be fixed by any means for remainder of the event.
• INTERIOR: Door panels, dash, headliner and carpet must remain in place. Passenger seat and back seat plus all interior trim from driver’s seat back can be removed. Doors must work from inside and outside of vehicle. Windows and door switches must work and be located as designed by manufacturer. Cars will be re-inspected on the return road any cars found missing required components shall be disqualified. Stock steering column and turn signals most be retained.
• ENGINE: Reserved for 4 cylinder, 2 rotor, 6 cylinder entries equipped with a turbocharger, superchargers, a nitrous oxide system for a total of up to two power adders. Engine must be the some make as vehicle racing. Bolt on modifications only. Aftermarket cams, headwork, valves, cam gears and other internal modifications allowed. Motor-swaps allowed. Approved aftermarket blocks allowed. No air-cooled entries. Wet sump oil systems allowed for competition, no vacuum pumps of any kind allowed for the oiling system.
• TURBOCHARGERS:
FWD Ecotec powered cars: 66mm max
FWD 4 Cylinder cars: 70mm max
FWD 6 Cylinder cars: 72mm max
AWD 4 Cylinder cars: 66mm max
RWD 4 Cylinder cars: 70mm max
• INTERCOOLERS: Air to Liquid intercoolers allowed. All intercooler components must remain under hood. No components for the intercooler allowed inside of the cars.
• CYLINDER HEADS: Must be commercially available, produced in runs of 500 or more. No billet cylinder heads. Any internal modification permitted.
• INDUCTION SYSTEMS: Any commercially available induction may be used, but stock configuration must be retained. Ex: Fuel injected entries must remain fuel injected, with the same type of injection used as delivered stock.
Example: if the car is delivered from the factory in a single throttle body configuration it must remain as a single throttle body.
• NITROUS: Bottles must be stamped 1800-psi minimum. Bottles must be mounted directly to the body, utilizing all mounting points. Electrical bottle heaters allowed. NOTE: no external flame heating of bottle allowed. Blow down tube is required if bottle is inside passenger compartment.
• EXHAUST SYSTEM: NDRA does not require mufflers for racing however, check with track, as some tracks have a noise ordinance, which requires a muffler for Saturday racing. Catalytic converters may be removed.
• DRIVE TRAIN: FWD, or AWD, or RWD entries. Stock drive train configuration required. Stock style rear end must be used. * Rear ends: O.E. style bolt in differential casing allowed. No aftermarket substitutes allowed. Examples (8.8”, 9”, or 12 bolt). If vehicle comes stock with I.R.S., vehicle must stay that way for competition.
• TRANSMISSION: Factory available OEM manual gearbox / with an H-Pattern shifter or factory available OEM automatic transmission allowed. Modifications limited to what fits completely within stock transmission and bell housing. Aftermarket H-Pattern shifters allowed, but can’t be gated. Scatter-shield required if 11.99 or quicker. See section 4.15 for additional details. No aftermarket Transmissions of any kind allowed. Absolutely no trans-Brakes allowed.
• CLUTCH/FLYWHEEL AND FLYWHEEL SHIELD: After market clutch and flywheel shield required if car is running 11.99 or quicker. See section 4:13 and 4:16
• CHASSIS: Full stock chassis (Full stock floor pan) required. A roll bar is mandatory in all cars running 11.99 or quicker and in convertibles running 13.99 or quicker. Any vehicle equipped with a roll bar must be equipped with a padded head protector to be placed behind the driver’s head mounted in such a way so as to help minimize the risk of whiplash. The cage or roll bar must also be fitted with padding in any area where it may come in contact with the driver’s helmet. Padding with ¼ inch compression or padding meeting SFI Spec 45.1 padding or better shall be used. No other forms of padding will be accepted.
• SUSPENSION: Must use one shock per wheel, or retain original style suspension. Coil-over shocks allowed. No wheelie bars allowed. Stock shock towers must remain completely intact front and rear. Roll bar may be attached to shock towers. Stock pieces may be strengthened. REAR: Entire rear sub frame structure must remain intact. The entire rear portion of the strut mount must also remain intact. Lower control arm alterations limited to lengthening or strengthening. Back half conversions not permitted.
• WHEELBASE: Stock wheelbase must be retained.
• IGNITION SYSTEM: Aftermarket crank triggers, two-step rev limiters, ignition amplifiers, spark computers or dynamically adjustable engine management systems and piggyback engine management systems are allowed. Stand-alone systems allowed.
• LIGHTS/STREET EQUIPMENT: Headlights, turn signals, horn, and taillights must be retained in stock condition. One headlight can be removed for air induction.
• BRAKES: All cars must have four working hydraulic brakes, and in good working order.
• COOLING SYSTEM: No electric water pumps. Electric fans allowed. Must use overflow/catch can 1-pint minimum. NOT be mounted in front of tires or with overflow line pointed at tires.
• TIRES/WHEELS:
FWD cars allowed 26” and smaller slicks.
FWD 6 cyl. cars 2500lbs and over allowed 28” slicks
AWD cars with 1 power adder allowed slicks (Min weight 3,000lbs)
AWD cars with 2 power adders allowed DOT approved street tire(Min weight 3,150lbs)
AWD max tire size allowed is 235/60, or 26”
RWD 4 Cylinder cars allowed only DOT approved street tire. (Min weight 2,900lbs)
Cars running 11.99 or quicker must have metal valve stems. Tubes permitted. NOTE: “absolutely” no mini spare tires or non-speed rated tires may be used.
• FUEL: Gasoline only. No VP 56,or VP Import allowed in class. Fuel cells allowed, fuel cells must be covered or separated from the drivers compartment, but can not be in the engine compartment.
• DRIVERS LICENSE: State, or Federal, or International drivers license mandatory.
• COMPETITION LICENSE: A valid competition license mandatory for cars running 9.99 and quicker at a NHRA track and 9.49 and quicker at a IHRA track. (no exceptions!)
• DRIVERS SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Any vehicle equipped with a roll cage or roll bar must be equipped with a padded head protector to be placed behind the driver’s head mounted in such a way so as to help minimize the risk of whiplash. The cage or roll bar must also be fitted with padding in any area where it may come in contact with the driver’s helmet. Padding with ¼ inch compression or padding meeting SFI Spec 45.1 padding or better shall be used. No other forms of padding will be accepted.
• FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS: Mandatory on all Pro cars, and Sportsman cars 9.59 and quicker. System must be SFI 17.1 approved for competition use.
• HELMETS: Drivers of cars 13.99 or quicker must use a helmet that is Snell 95, 2000 SFI 31.1, 31.2, 41.1 or 41.2 spec. Any helmet that is modified in any way other than paint jobs shall be deemed unsafe and not suited for competition. Drivers must be wearing their helmet prior to entering the burnout area. The NDRA requires the use of Full Face Helmets and strongly recommends the use of the proper visor as well. A 38.1 head and neck restraint system required for all 9.59 and quicker cars.
• CLOTHING: 10.00-11.99: Drivers must wear jacket meeting SFI 3.2A/1.
• SEAT BELTS: All cars that require a roll bar must use a 5-point SFI 16.1 driver restraint system equipped with a quick release system. Belts must be mounted to the frame or cross member or in a reinforced mounting point so that all connections are in a direct line with the direction of the pull. Cars requiring a SFI 16.1 drivers restraint system must have the belts updated 2 years from the dates stamped on the SFI belt tags. Cars using OEM type seats may route the crotch strap in front of the seat rather than through a hole in the base cushion.
• PARACHUTES: Required for all cars exceeding 150 mph. Tech inspectors may inspect parachute for damage or wear at our discretion. Parachutes must be solidly mounted to frame and release housing must be no more than 12” from parachute pack and must be mounted in such a way to ensure smooth operation without failure. NOTE: any car running in excess of 150 MPH must pull the chute! If the driver doesn’t pull the chute the run maybe DQ’d. If you’re not sure pull the chute anyway!

brian… might want to check out your rule set for your dad. If they made the change in NDRA, it might be other places too.

i think thats the way it should be in competitive racing. anyone can make the power but it takes a good driver to get the times out of it
