weird I thought australia was down under…not up

DO WANT!

Keep dreaming

Why can’t we have something like that here?

Three letters… EPA.

With the new fuel economy standards I doubt the LS6 powered G8 will even survive.

Get your fast cars now boys and girls, because the next 10 years are going to be the early 80’s all over again.

aside from the engine the ar actually looks really nice too. I would take it with a plain ol ls juan

If by early 80’s you mean cruising around in my Fisher Price walker, then yes. Old man.

No wai.

Engines & specifically engine managment have come a hell of a ways since the early 80s emission overkill shit.

You have rock stock 4 cyls putting down 200 hp/tq from the showroom. V6s pushing the 300 mark.

Sure the cars weigh as much as they did in the 60s & 70s, but thats the cost of 4096 added safety & comfort features.

30+ mpg is completely doable, even from a fast (relative to factory terms) mass production DD. Its just a question of wether or not people will sacrifice POWER fold down seating and under headlight storage compartments… :bloated:

under headlight storage compartments…

LOL!

The majority of the weight gain is from safety features like multiple airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners etc and crash integrity addons like super strong doors, two things I don’t see people giving up or even getting the option to give up since most are government mandated.

If you can lower the weight to save gas that leaves you with just the engine. The cars may have 200 HP compared to the 90 HP some 1981 POS had, but since they’re 2000lbs heavier than that circa 1981 car the performance is still going to suck.

190rwhp corvettes again, great

who in the right mind would even buy one of those anyways?

i saw a guy at the dunntire on union during the summer tryin to sell his for like 35k

:2fingers: I was born in 77, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t seen the underpowered POS’s that came out of the early 80’s.

Dec 76 here and I am also well aware of the lackluster cars of the early-mid 80s

another reason is gm has to redesign 90% of the australian cars because they dont meet us guidelines

2008 Carger SXT - V6, 250 CHP, 17 / 24 mpg… Curb Weight 3783.

Yet, the 2008 Acura TSX - I4, 205 CHP, 19/28 mpg… curb weight 3257.

They have comprable storage space throughout, comparable performance numbers, and the safety ratings are: 5:5, 5:5, 4:5, 5:4, 4:4.

540 lbs… why such a difference?

My point is that a car chassis can be designed to pass the crash testing, and not involve an extra 1/4 ton of metal.

MAY 1982

I know I know, I was just teasing you. You are only a bit older then me, relax.
