I’ve relocated for far less.
It all depends on what they are providing and what you are trying to cover.
Oh, and don’t forget to make sure they gross it up for tax purposes.

I just moved from Florida to Boston. I have a hotel for 3 months, $30 a day for good and $.47 per mile anywhere I drive personal or for work. After the 90 period is over and I decide to stay they will pay for up to $4000 towards a dp on a house of rental whichever I choose. Once I move officially I get a gas card and a car allowance and still keep the $30 a day for food.
:edit: I forgot to add, they will also pay for all moving costs for furniture.(I sold everything and plan to re-buy anyways so this is irrelevant but it was offered)
If you ask for it, and you know you are worth it. You need to hold out until they agree to your terms, remember if they are asking you to move this is a necessity for them.
I would would say forget about getting relocation reimbursement. Negotiate a higher salary. You can always file relocation expenses in your income tax. Relocation is not expensive if you’re single.
From Buffalo to D.C. area it’ll probably cost you $2k or less plus deposit for your apartment and 1st months rent. I’d figure that out and throw in an extra $500 for random expenses if you want to be honest. Or just go for a straight $5k and use the leftovers for some D.C. hookers and blow.

depends where you are going and how important they feel you are… I know for a fact our company has paid upwards of 25K relocation expense, and that is in buffalo.

They are based out of Colorado…They have a office in Haymarket VA, right outside of DC.
They do work with the Pentagon, Walter Reed Medical, Navy, Army, DoD…
