Average Relocation expenses?

Anyone relocate?

How much did your company give you?

I have to come up with a number to give the company…I have family who works in a different division of the company who suggested 5k…

Just curious if anyone else had input…

are they going to give you a housing allowance for the first few months before you can buy a place?

where are you moving to?

Depends on where you’re going… that’s a HUGE factor. $5k isn’t bad; should cover most things within a reasonable distance.

They said tell us what you need to move there.

I already found a couple apartments.

Newport News VA

hope you like sailors!

Michael Vick is from Newport News!!

I would look at the cost of moving truck, gas, food, apartment security deposit & how much it is to break your lease if you are breaking one. THEN give them a number.

When we were looking at CA they offered Jon 10K moving expenses…and that was just getting there (moving truck/shipping cars)

Yes…infact I am taking over a dog fighting club

They paid about $7k to move to Orlando a few years ago, that also included sending down my Syclone in an enclosed trailer  Negotiate, that is what you need to do!

What do you do down there? My girlfriend got a job offer in lakeland and we were looking into how people like it in that area.

I was relocated to work for a real estate title company down here, now I co-own a title company and I also have a Real Estate investment corporation I just started this past fall. I love it down here. Lakeland is not too far from where I live outside of Orlando in Lake County, it is a quiet and nice area. The only things I reallymiss from back home is family, friends and the food; but I can always visit, I find the quality of ife much better down here… NO STATE INCOME TAX, good weather, good economy (even though the real estate market is down right now I am still making six figures). Lakeland is a sleepy little place, but it is only a short drive to Orlando, Tampa and Daytona.

Sounds great. Maybe i will have to get myself down there.

price out the total expenses for the move. consider you not moving your stuff. trust me, if the company is paying for it, dont break yourself.

additional expenses that you might want to consider

setting up a po box
security deposit on an apt
temp housing expenses
gas for moving truck
fees to “check out the area” before you move

I say $5500, that will get u a decent heads/cam/nitrous setup. Cmon you cant get handed money and not use it for mods now!

^ this guy is thinking!!!

More like money towards down payment on White S2000

I figure an air mattress and beer are cheap…why not drive a nice car.

lol.

and, relocating from Buffalo, NY to Millsboro, DE (moderately higher cost of living) was worth $7500 to M&T Bank Corp for a mid level training & recruitment rep.

Newport News, nice area. Been through it a couple of times.

I would probably go for $1000 just because of the opportunity and what I would be doing…

A friend back in highschool graduated RIT and was offered a job out in Denver, they offered him something along the lines of 15k to relocate + gave him a 3 month furnished apartment til he found a place. I believe he gave the 15k to his parents who needed it more than him.

Toss out a rediculous number and see how they bite

Moving expenses that might occur:
–cost of moving truck rental/gas/etc.
–1st month/last month/security on an apartment
–Anything furniture related that wasn’t brought with you that might of been sold off.
–Are you going to switch cell phone number/provider?
–Cable TV/Internet/Home phone setup
–1st month utilities
–Transport a vehicle down?
–Fly down and have a moving company bring your stuff after?
–Food/beer/whatever for the fridge for the first couple weeks
–(dont know if you’d use this) Gym membership relocation fee or to sign up for a new one.
–Pets being moved?

If they are fronting the bill, might as well make use of any extra cash they are willing to offer to make the move as easy as possible.
