Fuck. I’ve been posting a lot of anti-Obama stuff. I better drive south for the day so the Secret Service doesn’t detain me. But then again, I’m not a hooker so I may be safe.
You do realize that back in 2011 when Construction was still ongoing that it was one of the largest (if not the largest) construction projects in the United States? (The facility is the size of six football fields)
The magnitude of this facility going in up here has the potential to usher in a new era of technology and skilled labor to this region never seen before.
The only downside to the project is the fact that the State bent over backwards and gave Global Foundries way too many tax incentives and breaks to come to Malta.
Plus AMD did not resign the contract in march which made global foundries the soul manufacturer of wafers for AMD, and they are seeking elsewhere now as well, though they are still maintaining a relationship with Global. They replaced/layed off quite a few people recently. I’d love to know where they are getting this ridiculous ammount of money from now to build the second building.
GF agreed to having 80% of their workforce consist of New Yorkers in exchange for those tax incentives. Living here all my life and witnessing how depressed Upstate New York is for jobs I’d say that’s a pretty awesome trade-off.
