Yep, they do, that’s why they have to follow the routes given to them by air traffic control. Since they get passed from one control’s radar range to the next, hopping around the country, that’s why they can’t go in a straight line.

The new system will be all GPS based with real time data allowing the planes to be stacked in virtual lanes with each taking a direct route to it’s destination.
