Backed into today

I already posted a similar topic on NICO today, but anyway, here’s the story. There was a Budget van in front of my car today and I discovered my Navan grille (just installed yesterday…) was broken (one of the installation tabs was snapped and that’s it thankfully), my driver’s side headlight bracket was snapped and the headlight pushed in, and two scratches on the corner of the hood that I don’t think were there before.

Unfortunately I didn’t think of someone bumping into it until after the Budget van had left (while I was there taking pics, and the dude even asked me if I was taking pics of his van), since it was just so random and wtf because I installed the grille yesterday and it even had me wondering if I messed that up somehow, but no way. Thankfully I have a pic of the van and its licence plate in one of my shots, so what do you think I can do here? I plan to call the company tomorrow, but is there any realistic chance of me getting something out of this? Like will their insurance (or the guy’s insurance who rented the van if it was rented by him, if he got insurance) cover it? Anything else I could do?

A new headlight (well, used) will cost me around $75 or so plus shipping, unless someone here could hook me up for better than that, and that’s a Navan grille that usually costs around $150… Got mine for $130 with shipping overall though… It’s not that bad, just the one insert tab snapped but I don’t know how well it would hold if I glued it or something.

I have a feeling he hit it man, what to do afterward in this scenario, not sure.

**but the damage is pretty minimal, i think it’s best to let it be but those kind of things do suck!

hmm, call them up anyways, or file a police report.

Realisticly, whats the worst that can happen?

As for the repairs, its nothing that big. Use this opportunity to upgrade?

Call them up. Don’t let them get away with it.

call them up, hit and run, plus the person who rented the van should have insurance

No proof it was the van. It’s his word against yours.

You’re out of luck.

Yeah, that’s the thing that sucks. Filed a police report today although that won’t do anything. Also talked to someone in the area who said they think they know the guy who rented the van and that he was a nice guy and would have said something if he knew he hit it (maybe he didn’t think he did, I don’t know). He wasn’t home today so I’ll go over there another day and see what’s up.

pretty much… unfortunately.

truth… unless you have a witness, its your word against theirs…

Yeah, I’m aware of that. I realize chances are very slim that anything will happen but there is the small chance of him admitting he did it, if he’s a nice guy. I’d be hella surprised if that happened though. Not counting on getting any money and I’ll get a new headlight for $80 or so and see if I can fix the grill. I still have my OEM one for the mean time, and I’ll probably get a 96 OEM too since I can get one for cheap and I like the look of it. Dent in my hood looks even worse now and the paint is cracking a bit. I should be able to fix that before I repaint this spring but it’s not that bad.

Hopefully he’ll admit it.

Good luck man
