DrDoS, I am looking into battery options now, and I am torn between
mounting a mini / normal size in the trunk, or engine bay. Plus, I am going to
be getting rid of that ugly positive side of the pattery and doing what Carnut
said, making my own “OEM” replacement for the stock fuses. I just want it to
look alittle prettier, and for better weight distribution, as well as gaining space.
Buy a Optima… I suggest a Yellow Top… they are deep cycle and a full discharge wont hurt it… it will do damage to a Red Top and degrade its capacity/life. Use welding cable… its cheap and of excellent quality. 2GA will be fine for your application. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
I did this with a red top in the tibby. I just bought a battery tray with hold down from pepboys, ran 4GA from the battery to a distribution block I bought from Circuit City, and placed a 120amp circuit breaker back by the battery. I do plan on getting a better looking tray and hold down, but they are both black and for now it matches well with the black carpet in the trunk. I also bought nice tsunami distribution terminals to finish it all off.
you can buy a whole battery relocation kit from summitracing IIRC, you can look into that im sure its not to bad in price or difficulty. oh and optima FTW
