anyone know anything about them?
Im sure burnyd will come in here and write you a short story about them, or maybe even a sonnet or two.
But apparently, their a high compression 3sge, their fairly rare and loved to be revved. They make somewhere in the neighborhood of ~200hp, obviously no turbo, these motors were designed to be NA only
You looking at one? I have a friend that road races one…been pretty reliable from what he says…but his is internally stock.
excellent… i’ll await the d’s input. sounds good so far.
not that it will happen, but since the tercel bombed on ebay, i was thinking of a motor to jam in it.
Not terribly overpriced either…that would be fun in a Tercel.
there isnt many rwd toyota 4cyl options… id consider a 4age, but someone is already doing it on tercel4wd.com …im all about being different.
It sounds like a super fun project. Speaking of BurnyD…he should see this:
There okay motors… they came in the 4th generation of 3sge’s…
they are avaible from the following…
Over seas 6th gen celicas 94-99 ST202’s but only the SSII Version
IS300/Altezza
94-99 Caldina
Never in any USDM vehicles
Overall good motor it makes 200hp/165ft lbs… if you get the one from the Altezza you will get dual VVT and not just vvt on the intake side… there really high compression motors for a stick motor 11:1. Unfortunately there is not much aftermarket for these cars as far as internals, there are a few places where you can buy itbs… you can always hook up AEM EMS to it since it is similar electronics to a 3sgte but as far as cams and internals being in the states would be really hard to source yourself.
I honestly do not think it is worth the time or money to swap one of these things into a vehicle. I have not checked in a long time but clips were very expensive the last time I looked.
So what were you looking to put a beams motor into?
Just purchase a ST185 clip. Or you can always put the beams on a E153 transmission. Let me know you can have my spare alltrac tranny I have no use for it.
Thanks for the info man.
This will actually be rwd. i still have my 3sgte, but there’s probably no way to put a rwd trans on it. im also sure it would have to be stand-alone.
rwd, then your going to need a r154 from a corolla like any ae86 cars or a supra… go to club4ag.com… theres converstions I just have never looked into it before…
is this the 20v silver top motor with itbs? that motor loved to rev. had a customer with one. was pretty wild
this is a little different… makes more power and is a 2.0l compared to a 1.6l… Beams from the factory is not ITB but there are a few places that make ITB’s for it… jay if I were you and wanted to do something creative just buy a silvertop 20v swap for it there really cheap and it will bolt into that same transmission wise so you can reuse it.
so the beams motor and the 4age both use a r154 trans?
now what about this… the beams is coded 3s-ge … does that mean a 3sgte might have the same block to mate to that rwd trans??
Beams is 3sge, 4age Silver top is 4age… the trans in the car currently is ment for a A series block hence the 4aGE…
like an alltrac tranny is ment for a S series block 3sgte…
the R154 tranny is ment for a A/M Series motors and is RWD, used in Corollas / supras(86-92) And would work.
so there is no such thing as an S series rwd trans?
