I took my car to ray lacks to see if i could get a new occupant position sensor installed, since the stock one is overly sensitive and turns the side airbag light on when theres a wendys bag on it.
They said i would need to pay for it, since its a salvage vehicle. So, they did know right away.
Of course you would go to every dealer and yell, but from what I hear its not a good chance of getting a replacement. Of course its possible, so go anyways obviously. If you find a place that does it, even though they know its a salvage title, let me know. I could use a backup plan if my trans decides to go out on me.
And as far as the 6spd swap goes, theres about 10-20 people I know of who did it thus far, and had no problems. The only time anyone had any major problem is when they went into swapping the engine to a J35 with J32 heads, and had no idea what they were doing… But they were replacing the ECU as well, and thats NOT a easy task. Youre much better off getting the richieV6 harness and using the stock ECU and wiring.
we’ll see what goes on. maybe holtz wont know. worst case they do… i’ve already got my mechanic searching out parts for me. its just a shitty situation. who knows. i’m prepping myself for ‘worst case’. Its not ideal, but at the very least I have the eclipse to provide the funds to fix it.
what else might i fuck up doing that? I dont want to do further damage. or… when it comes to tran. issues, once you fuck the whole tranny you fuck the whole tranny. It would be nice to have a few months but i dont wanna need to pay more than i have to. I think im going to start with a fluid flush and see if it clears up the problem. I know there were mixed feelings on the subject, but if its fucked, its fucked, ya know?
anyway merry christmas to me hahaha. i’ll live. what can ya do. i paid 6000 for a car with a clean nada of 11900 (50% value for a salvage that only had cosmetic damage…im ok with that). not terrible. I can live with a repair i suppose. its not ideal, but im alive, have a great family, just got into medical school. i’ll survive
-tran fluid flush. completely clean the system. Worst case it does nothing. Best case my only issue is the cold combined with poor fluid is causing the issue. I read in the service bullitin that the acura/honda tranny is built to hard shift in cold weather in purpose and this all could just be an exasperation.
-price out transmission and talk to a honda dealer. free replacement or not i have to be prepared.

can someone give me some info on this trans issue. Legit info, my moms 98 v6 accord w/51,000 miles is about to go to lia for trans slipping probs??? Hoffman and Jerry didnt mention anything about a lawsuit involved, they just said Honda might cover it
follow those links i posted man. Print them both and bring htem to whatever shop you go to. they provide instructions on whats covered, whos covered, when they’re covered, what labor to do, how the shop can recoupe the cost, everything.
back ON topic… (haha jk man)-
I got a lock on a '02 transmission with torque converter for 1450.00 with 180 shipping to a shop, 2yr unlimited mile warrante. I can live with that and the labor. so my ‘worst case’ is shitty but manageable. i’ll keep people posted on other suff and hopefully this can help people in the future if the run into similar issues
Who says that you have to let the Honda dealer install the transmission, especially if it is a salvage car with no warranty?
Surely you can get a rebuilt one mail ordered to a local shop. I bet there are a dozen guys on here who could do the work properly for half what honda gets to do it.
Or you can buy a used one from car-part.com and take your chances.
I have put used transmissions into cars with good results, it just depends on your budget.
I would put amsoil fluid in that new transmission…
If you go to a reputable trans shop, a rebuild might work out ok. But from what ive read on several people getting this exact trans rebuilt, they dont usually last more than 10-20k, and a few people had hard shifts even right after the rebuild. The shops usually do nothing about it as well.
The replacement honda trans is the ‘best’ best, but its going to be 4k+… So its your last resort.
If the ‘warranty’ on the used trans is legit, thats a good deal. 2 years of unlimited miles is better than anyones going to give you.
man this is getting complicated. what if i sell it as is. let the buyer know the issues and sell for 3000 and cut my losses. keep the eclipse. this is all much scarier shit than i thought.
Before you consider doing that, take it to a dealer or two and see what they say. Dont say shit about it being a salvage title. I really dont see how they wouldnt find out. Honda probably wants to know what car the trans theyre shipping is for before they send it. And im sure they would send the VIN to do that, and then theyre going to see its salvaged.

yeah im going to hit up dealerships on the 27-30. i’ll see what options I have. Tomorrow im going to try the battery reset after seeing what the code is and what im fucking with. we’ll see.
