So this morning I unplugged the battery for a moment and let the car settle. There was immediate improvement in shifting, but still, noticeable rpm rise/pause/drop into gear. As the car drove it got a little more noticeable.
I called John Holtz and finally got some input. they immediately ran the VIN and come to find out it shows all warrantes voided. I didnt have to ask why, I just went with it. They quoted 4100 for the job plus tax with a 1yr/10000mile warranty, up to 4560 plus tax for 5/50000. I called my shop and they laughed and said they could do better for less than half that. Made me happy… the shop is owned by my cousin. (what italian doesnt know a guy in a shop). The guy at Acura said that a flashing D5 is the tran. computer bugging out and not a good sign. Its def SOMETHING with the tran, but not necesarily as big of a problem as I’m self diagnosing. Getting it looked at on the 26 or 27.

I found contact information for the dealership that purchased the car, salvaged it and put it on the road. I suppose I could call them and inquire about repairs, but honestly I think that the voided warrante is going to prevent them from securing parts from Honda. Unless i was the one who bought it, i think they’ll laugh. (the dealership is in Erie PA right off 90.)
anyway… Service warrante wont work. On to the next plan, if it is in fact the transmission.
this is where i found the tranny quoted at 1450.00 with the 2yr/unlimited mile warrantee (340 for an additional year) and 180 shipping.
seems like a good deal esp with the warrantee. anyone heard of this company? I spoke with a representative in person. They seem very nice, knowledgeable. The coverage extends to the shop that installs it. I asked if i could get fucked by them saying ‘oh well the labor was no good, F you.’ and they said that the coverage extends to the shop providing it so long as its a qualified (BBB registered).
The coverage is important to me. I would def get the 3rd year.

ps… when shit like this happens, I OBSESS over it untill its rectified. Its a good thing (gets shit done) and bad (i get so fucking annoying) so… thank you for listening guys
The flashing D4 is a sign the trans is pissed, but it dosent mean its on fire or anything like that. Mine did that once when I first got the car, but it was shifting fine and it went away. The trans likes to randomly throw solenoid codes sometimes. Mine hasnt done it since then, but its a well known issue.
If you had sludge in your trans that is because you have poor cooler flow.That is not a fault of the fluid.However if you didnt replace the cooler and then change the fluid it will happen again.The old chrysler taxi cabs used to have that problem,727s and 904s dont pump fluid threw the cooler when its in park,so idleing those cars for long times the fluid would sludge up.Sludge is cause by excessive heat.This is the reason i said take it somewhere and have it looked at.It sounds to me like it may have an electrical problem.Which is a good chance seening it has a slavage title.Possiable wire pinched or corrorded.Could even be a computer problem or the neutral saftey switch.There is no way to tell without looking at it in person.
Fluid will have a little effect on how the clutchs grab.That is why some people use ford type f and for hondas the honda fluid or maxlife trans fluid for the added friction modifiers in them.As i said before,if you put regular mercon dextron in a honda it my chatter alittle when it shifts.So yes the fricton modifiers in the honda fluid do help alittle,but if it already had the honda fluid in it then the firction modifiers are already in the trans theres no reason for it to slip inbetween shifts except if it has another problem.Did you know people used to fill there auto trannys with regular engine oil instead of using atf because they belived that it had better lube properties.And they never had any problem with using a different fluid.
its more the med school thing. Honestly, I would keep it and fix it under any other circumstances. Its areally a fucking great car if you have the free $ and time. Me? I owe my med school 1500 by mon. to reserve my place. I just cant do it now.
