For anything under $2k you’d better be prepared to compromise. I went looking for TVs between 50" and 60" in the $2000 range and saw obvious flaws in everything I looked at.

Want to see DLP’s flaws? Put on a hockey game. Watch the players fade out and pixilate as the camera pans.

Want to see LCD’s flaws? Put on something that is supposed to be black, or has a color gradient.

Plasma looks great, but I’m betting you won’t be happy after a couple of years when pixels start dying and randomly flickering.

Bottom line, I’d spend as little as possible now and wait for better TVs to come along in the next few years.

Most of those problems are rumors or only occured in the earlier generations.

Sure he can wait longer for better TV’s to drop in price but then everyone will say to wait a couple more years until 1080P’s get cheaper. There will always be something better in the future.
