I’m going to upgrade the low beam projectors in my Silvia triple projectors and best way is to convert to HID and install the TSX Xenon projectors. But I would also like to upgrade my High Beams. I have searched on some forums and haven’t found any solid evidence on the difference between Xenon and Bi-Xenon.
Are Bi-Xenon’s referring to the projector housing with the solenoid actuated shield for high/low beams? Or is the main difference the actual bulb?
The TSX projectors are Xenon (as far as I know), they are almost bolt-in for my Siliva. I can’t find any TSX projectors that are Bi-Xenon (have the high/low sheild). But the Acura TL has the Bi-Xenon with the high/low sheild.
I’m still researching on wether or not the TL projector housings will fit easily into the Silvia housing.
Does anybody have any input on Xenon vs. Bi-Xenon? Or any other recomendations on upgrading my high beams?
No. I doubt it. The Acura TL projector is gigantic. One of the biggest on the market. It barely fits in my housing, and my headlights aren’t small. I actually have to cut away a bottom section of my headlight to fit the bi-xenon mechanism.
Eh…that’s a valid point. Unless you just aim (when installing) the 2nd projector up. That way it does the high-beam work WITH a cutoff and wire up the other projector to stay lit so it still does the lowbeam (although the highbeam would still put out onto the road).
I can’t wait until I get my 2nd set of TL retrofitted headlights. I miss mine so much.
Yeah I heard about them I’ll look into it. I know people who retrofit the Silvia headlights stick to projectors with a 2.5" or less lens diameter. As much as I like the idea behind Bi-Xenon, I might just put HID bulbs in my stock high beam projectors. If I get the right bulbs would there still be an issue with the high beam’s projection? Obviously I don’t care about blinding people (high beams), I just want maximum light output/coverage/ability to see deer.
Or if you want to go with a single sided Bi-xenon setup, this would probably work best for you. The Infiniti Bi-xenons are similarly sized to the TSX’s, and come with mounting holes pre-cast into the projector.
Infiniti FX-R bi-xenon projectors
Philips 85122+ D2S bulbs
Matsushita Gen 3 OEM ballasts (oem nissan/infiniti)
low beam wire harness (you’ll need to tap into your high beam wires to power the solenoids)
$410
Any setup you choose is sure to hook you up with significantly better light output at night compared to your OEM halogen projectors, no doubt.

Thanks Steve, take care.

Looks like I might go with the FX-R, and upgrade to the clear lenses.
Although Matt might have good projectors…STAY AWAY FROM HIS WIRING HARNESS. I got mine from him and it fell apart (fuse holder didn’t have a good connection so lights would cut in and out). I don’t know if you know electronics/wiring, but if you can do it yourself or have someone here do it for you…do it.
I was driving once (this happened many times) from Syracuse and some guys in an Altima SE-R were toying with me and we stopped at a rest area to chat. The projectors were the main receivers of compliments.
Well…we left together and as I’m driving, my lights went off (past midnight). I was SO embarrassed.
Stay away from his harness if you have to get one. Not worth the money I paid for it.
His harness (that I purchased on EBay):
Looks sturdy right? Yeah. After about a month or two the fuse holder stopped connecting properly and the lights would cut it and out. Jiggling it around would help. I eventually temp-fixed it by taping the shit out of it so it wouldn’t move AS much (it still moved inside the holder a bit) and that cut down on my blackouts.
Do what you want, but I just felt I had to warn you so you don’t have to pay for a harness twice like I did. My second one (from JtzMax on Maxima.org) was flawless till the day I sold it. Much sturdier than Matt’s.
