Bicycle crew: Post your ride

Hah, that’s a sweet old school bike.

I still need to work on bringing my Grandparents’ old 2-seater Schwinn back to life. It needs some work but nothing major. I think they would be really excited to see it back in rideable shape.

Ignore the text, Spam16v had to spend all Saturday in some “corporate development session” bullshit class while this showed up at my door.

Cross bike to haul around this little monster

Looking forward to hitting up single tracks 10 miles away without having to haul a mountain bike there or ride a mountain bike there

Got some upgrades done on mine. X-Fusion Velour R fork, Alex TD24 Rims (nothing special), BB7 Disc Brakes.

Before:

After:

Next Upgrades will be saddle and seatpost clamp and possibly changing up the handlebar configuration.

Noice! I’ll be taking mine out tonight with the extra daylight and all. I’ll prolly have to bleed the brakes and give her a good 'ol lube!

Any serious mountain bikers here? Looking for some people for some fun biking in the sprague brook etc.

You’re going to ride that at SB?!? Have fun pedaling that heavy beast around. You need to make trips to Plattekill instead.

Have been doing it for 2 years brah lol nbd

But like I said “etc” meaning ellicottville and others down south.

That would be even worse to ride a DH/FR bike on, but to each their own.

And what would you suggest??? Seeming like you know everything?! Since we have such vast mountain ranges and desert sand in our region. What trails are the best in the great wonderful western New York? FYI I purchased the bike when I was stationed in California.

I think he’s simply implying that a cross country bike is more appropriate for the types of trails you will encounter in WNY. Riding XC trails on a DH bike is exhausting and cumbersome.

The implied suggestion is to sell the DH bike for a XC or All-Mountain bike.

I ride in Ellicottville every weekend in the spring/summer/fall. We usually do the 12 mile race loop or start at the bottom of the Eagle trail which is a 2 mile up hill bitch! But a fun 2 mile downhill to finish the ride.

As for the bike you have, yeah its heavy as stated and yes its going to be a bitch…but if thats what you have and the money is not wanting to be dropped for something else (which I completely get that seeing as you need to spend about a $1k to have something decent these days) You deal with what you have. I took my Next to Ellicottville when I first got into it. about 8 trips there and even doing 24 miles with it was a bitch! Bent rims with rubbing rim brakes, along with bashed up bearings that barely moved and a wobbly frame that I couldnt screw tighter. Pretty much when done and said, it should have been thrown off a cliff for noone to ever have the chance of using again, it really was trashed.

If you ever look into a new bike, look for either a hard tail, or a bike that has full suspension but the ability of locking out all your suspension. Uphill climbs with full suspension suck, you lose a lot of your momentum in the shock travel.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Full Suspension bikes SUCK for uphill riding, but you definitely don’t want one that has a really soft, long travel shock. You want something that is designed for XC riding.

I totally get what your saying I would never try and sell my bike just because there a ton of money into it, 8in Hyd Hayes brakes, boxxer racing fork with 8in travel etc I’m just looking for a place to get some decent use of the beast.

Out of the 3, whats the worst? Old traditional no suspension, front suspension only, full suspension. Only on uphill climbing. I’m not saying full suspension bikes suck by any means!!! But uphill climbing can suck if you do a lot of XC riding.

I’ll let you know when the s2k gang goes next time. lol Me and skurge ride at Holiday/McCarthy state park.

We’re getting away from the original point of the statement, but that’s ok, House2k seems to know what he’s doing and he’ll be just fine.

What is the point of focusing so much on “only uphill climbing”. Nobody in their right mind hits the trails and goes uphill only. You said “Uphill climbs with full suspension suck”

If funds allowed, I would be riding a Full Suspension XC bike, hands down. Even if the trails I was on had some long uphill bits. Yes the uphills will require some amount more energy, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing either. In the end, the other benefits of Full Suspension far outweigh the extra energy needed for the uphill sections. Like I said, you just have to make sure the geometry and travel is appropriate.

<-- this guy will never go back to a hardtail. Full suspension design has come such a long way there is almost no drawbacks for the non-hardcore racer.

For sure hmu on here when you go , hope there’s some fast technical down slope areas I don’t mind a little uphill I can just reach and turn my fork/shock up a few clicks and it don’t move at all and the idrive system is very nice.

there is just about everything at holiday

who says you cant carry your mtn bike INSIDE your S2K?

cant wait to get my bike back out, should be very soon, i haven’t ridden since i crashed and ended up with two fractures in my elbow last september, dont worry, the bike was fine

I guess it’s universal no matter what you ride, road bike, mountain bike, DH, etc that the first and foremost concern after a crash is the condition of the bike.
