I picture a car full of Biff’s and a truck packed with manure.
paging biff aka eric aka twomodified4u
:rofl at the BTTF reference(s).
I’m not a fan of American cars by any means. In fact, most old muscle cars look like crap to me. BUT…it’s awesome seeing something like this come together and to see the cars and how they were made back then.
Your bosses remark about the paint was pretty funny.
Good luck.
started ripping the parts car apart today, I have new floor pans, however the floorbraces/body mounts are completely rotted on the 2 door. So I had to cut them out of the parts car. Air chisel did WORK today.
the floors are almost perfect, shame its all getting cut up.
last oil change date 10/4/69 LOL a bit over due.
couple hours later
this is what I was after
after all of the old crusty undercoating was scraped off., not perfect, but repairable. Ill sandblast the rust off tomorrow and patch up the holes.
I also started pulling the front clip, pulled the fenders and the grille off.
took some steel wool to the grille and i was amazed at how clean it was, ill have to find a couple used teeth to replaced the cracked/damaged ones.
some comparisons
0000 steel wool?
Any sort of mild liquid abrasive as well?
What was your method?
i was a bit sketched out when i saw the beginning pictures but then i remembered that you really know what you’re doing rebuilding a car so it wouldn’t be that bad haha. good luck with everything and let me know if you need an extra pair of hands when I’m home in january!
not sure what grade, we have a box of it at the shop. its fairly mild. No other abrasives. Once I get some replacement teeth for the broken ones I will disassemble it, clean and polish it properly.
will do, I leave for school the 15th of Jan so I’m trying to get the new floors in by then. So lots of late nights between now and then.
OT: I patched up and repaired the rot holes in the floor braces, I just have to do a little bit more sand blasting, extract a few broken body bolts and epoxy prime then I can start fitting them/ the new floors in the black car.
I’ve been using 0000 steel wool for years to bring back chrome finish.
I always end up with small swirl marks…even with 0000.
Is it possible to remove those swirls?
I was always under the impression that chromed steel could not be polished to the point it would remove abrasive swirls.
Interested in information negating that mindset.
Good work do far. Considering picking up a 210 myself unless a '56 Chevy truck falls in my lap.
Id keep that oil change sheet. Put it in the car under clear or something somewhere after. thats awesome
Ive polished it in the past, ill tell you what I did when I get to it.
agreed
got quite a bit done in the past couple days, I pulled the seats out of the 2 door, cut out the old floor braces and part of the floor. I repaired the rot on the good floor braces and fitted it to 2 door.
then sand blasted it and removed the broken body mount bolts with a torch.
and epoxy primer.
Will all the floor and interior metal get sandblasted?
the floors/inner/outer rockers are all being replaced with new. the only part thats old are the floor braces pictured.
im excited to see panties drop cus of this ride
started fitting the new floor pans in tonight after work, I still have to remove the rest of the old floor under it and do a lot of trimming but its a start.Im gonna try to get the rest of the new body mounts in and try to get at least the back floor welded tomorrow.
rear floor is all welded
next is this uglyness
also stripped the hood im going to use.
and the underside
Red, how much does that hood weigh?
not too much. its pretty beefy tho.
