bittorent problems...

First off, what torrent programs do you use?
I use bittorent, and that may be my problem… I don’t know.

But anyway, on my HTPC (AMD 4600+ x2, winxp 64bit pro) I use bittorent to download… everything.
It will download around 1200kBps for about an hour or hour and a half, then it just drops off to about… 5kBps… and stays there.

What the fucking problem is?
Been dicking around with this for weeks now, no idea.
If i close bittorent and restart it, it will go back to downloading fast for a while, then slows right the fuck down.

I was reading an issue with AMD x2 processors, but that fix didn’t seem to help.
So I did some thinking… and right now, whichever core it has affinity for, it will max out and hold it at 100% usage.
Figured if I pushed to OC it might help… still throws it to 100% useage.
Only one core, the other core is… 1-2%.

So uh.
where the fuck do i start?

It’s not my internet, this computer will run 1200kbps+ all day long without problems on the exact same bittorent settings. (using winxp 64bit as well)

µTorrent is what I use, and is an extremely popular client among torrenters. They just released their new 2.0 client as well.

Are your ports forwarded? Try the new client and we’ll go from there…I had trouble with the bit torrent client as well, I hated it.

My understanding of torrents is it doesn’t matter how fast your pc is, but how many seeders/leechers there are for your file. If only one person has it, your download is going to take forever. If 40 people are downloading/uploading it, it’ll go a lot faster. I’ve had some take days while some got done in 20 mins.

utorrent FTW. Only time I’ve ever had speed issues was with files with not a lot of people sharing it.

utorrent for the few times I need to use torrents instead of newsgroups.

Need to make sure what ever port your torrent client is set to use is being forwarded properly by your router as well.

there is also an online calc that u put in your dl and upload speeds and it tells you the correct settings for bittorrent to run the best

i’ve used a couple and definitely have the best results with uTorrent. Try that, check your port, and enjoy

when i searched for bitorent… it seems the exact same as utorrent.
so ill try utorrent, port is already forwarded correctly.

<3 all.
annnd ill look in to that calc… hmm

utorrent uses uPnP so the port should be forwarded automatically

only if its supported/turned on in your router settings.
