Help with torrents

ok, so i got it to “work” with utorrent. but the speeds are horrible if they go at all. i tried to have a port forwarded and i followed the directions and all, but it sill says not forwarded. anyone have suggestions? or know a lot about it? thanks in advance.

torrents suck ass, you have to rely on other people to get the speeds up.

what kinda router?

what port are u trying to forward? what is ur local ip?

i have a wireless belkin but this pc is on a hard wire connection. i followed the directions and all. but its just not working well. i dunno. is it just supposed to be that slow?

speeds are slow…how many seeders does the torrent file have?

Torrents are rarely ever that fast. Just open the program and queue them and leave it running. Most larger torrent files that I download are done within a day.

i have torrents that constantly run around 100mb/s one actually went up to 400mb/s the other day.

what are u downloading?

if it is saying that the port is not forwarded, then the port is not forwarded.

if u give me the information i asked for before, i will find u some instructions.

How fast the torrent is depends on how popular it is at that moment. If 400 people are working on the same file, I’ve seen as high as 700kb transfer rate. If, OTOH, there are only three people working on the file, it’ll take forever. Also note that the more upload bandwidth you allocate, the faster it will download.

:word:

remember tho, if u use all ur bandwith on torrents, surfing the web is gonna be slow as mollassess

i generally cap my upload speed at 20mb/s

Not entirely true, eventually you hit the up limit and the down starts to slow. Here once i start seeding over 30kb/s the down starts going slower.

+1 I limit upload to basically off when I’m downloading then I’ll seed it like crazy to other people.

I’m willing to bet the slow downloads are a direct result of poor seeding. But then again maybe not.

Back to your original problem…

I cant speak for everyone here, but I hate utorrent, the only client I hate more is azereus.

Bittornado was my favorite, it was really lite, you could fully customize what ports you forwarded among about 90000 other options if you go advanced. it also ran concurrently really well, ive had 4 or 5 running no problem.

i really like utorrent, its just as customizable as bit tornado. also, u can download as many torrents as u want without a bajillion windows being open for bittornado.

anyways, i got him up and running via PM

enjoy

are you using DSL? I can’t get torrents to work on it for the life of me (get like 1kbs d/l speed if any). Tried setting up port forwarding and that didn’t seem to do much. Worked great when I had Adelphia (had speeds anywhere from 50kbps-250)

oh rly? can you help me out as well?

what did u do to get it setup in the first place?

That doesn’t happen for me, and I was running it today with upload up to 100k.
On that one, there were 30 seeders, and I was getting downloads that started at 80k and peaked at 350k just before the torrent finished. I’m using BitTornado.
