Blazer wont start

2000 blazer

starter is ok. it will crank but not kick over. it has good fuel pressure.
the cap and rotor were replaced apparently it has good spark also.

I am hoping this is a common chevy problem with an easy solution. Any thoughts?

who put on cap?

some sunoco in New Jersey. We were on vacation last week and it started acting up there. it was the closest place so thats where AAA took it

Motor only needs three things to run. Find out which one is missing. Most likely your getting air. Check spark at plug. Don’t assume its there because you just had some ignition maintanance. Fuel pressure isn’t the only thing you need as well, That just tells you the pump is pressurizing the line. Are injectors firing?

check for spark at the plugs - pull the wire off and hold it close to a ground while cranking, if there is spark you are good, if not, start looking for electrical problems(i’d start with the recently replaced cap and rotor).

Good point. pressure was checked in the line, could be injectors.

spark was checked at the plugs… seems strong. so i figured the cap and rotor were done right. maybe i was wrong

and to clarify: the problem occured before the cap and rotor were replaced. that was the garages attempt to fix it. but it still wouldnt start after the change.

are the plug wires on the right way? I have some experience in this

Spark at plugs means, good spark. Due diligence is to check more than one plug. Then start picking on fuel. Quick test is adding fuel manually. ie starting fluid in throttle body. if you get a nice kick out of that, then you know that there is absolutely enough spark to egnite a mixture.

and that the firing order is proper

ya. firing order/ spark / fuel pressure are all correct… every once in a while it will start and run fine. then the next time nothing.
i guess i was hoping that there was some common GM problem that i just didnt know about.

now you tell us

DO gm’s have a module like the fords? my truck was acting strange and doing funky stuff and I replaced the $18 module and it runs great now. i’d go with a computer going bad somewhere or a sensor ready to fail soon(cam, crank, maf, etc…).

yeah, and all the while I though you needed help with a no start. An intermitent problem is a whole different dio. First you need the problem to be occuring to find out what is it. You can’t fing a problem that isn’t there.

ya. i am figuring it is something along these lines. all the big stuff (fuel, air, spark) seemed to be ok.

i assume you are talking about the little starter module on the fender of the fords. my dad has an explorer that has had that problem a few times, but it always seemed to start fine if you just jumped the module with a wire. this cranks but wont fire…

i will have to check on the few recomendations you guys have made… thanks for the input.

no, not that one. The module I replaced was the ignition module that controlled the coil and when the plugs fire. I do not know what GM uses, but it may be similar.

I found a module for a 2000 blazer at autozone for $64
it’s under ignition and tune up parts. I don’t know if you can check those or not, amybe one of the gm heads can tell you.

well he traded the blazer in yesterday on a new toyota avalon. i guess that took care of the problem… but i think it cost him a little more than $64.
thanks anyway for all the research redneck.

that’s one way to fix a problem. :bigthumb:

Shoulda towed it to JJ´S!!

from New Jersey?? probably would have cost more than the truck was worth

if we were in town it would have been my first call
