Blizzard 2022 Thread

Lake flood warning, 3-5’ above flood levels, yikes.

I was just looking at the hourly forecast and it’s pretty nuts. The SUSTAINED winds hit 30mph Friday around 10am and don’t dip below 30 until 5pm SATURDAY. Meanwhile Friday by 10am the gusts are already over 50mph and dont’ go below 50 until 5pm Saturday. It’s not until 9pm Monday that the sustained falls below 15 and the gusts fall below 30. I’m guessing by then you’ll be able to walk out in the middle of Lake Erie in Toledo, OH without getting your feet wet because all their water will be at our end of the lake.

Well, officially a blizzard warning from NOAA. Don’t see those very often.

…BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM FRIDAY TO 7 AM EST
SUNDAY…

  • WHAT…Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of
1 to 3 feet. Winds gusting as high as 70 mph Friday and Friday
night. A rapid switch from rain to snow with sharply falling
temperatures into the teens and single digits will result in a
flash freeze on Friday. Blizzard conditions will develop Friday
    afternoon lasting into Saturday night.

  • WHERE…Niagara, Orleans, Erie, and Genesee counties.

  • WHEN…From 7 AM Friday to 7 AM EST Sunday.

  • IMPACTS…Travel will be very difficult to impossible at times.
Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage and numerous
power outages. The cold wind chills as low as 10 to 20 below
zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30
    minutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Strong winds will cause significant blowing and drifting snow,
frequently reducing visibilities to zero. Travel is strongly
discouraged.

Hamburg CSD closed, it’ll be a matter of time before everyone else does too.

Williamsville just sent the txt, they’re closed tomorrow.

We were just talking about how much worse storms like this must have been before technology. The date is 12/22/1840. It’s 34 degrees and partly sunny right now with almost no wind. Perfect day to hitch up the horse and buggy and head out to see uncle Jebediah for the holiday. 24 hours later you’ve frozen to death in a blizzard you had no idea was coming.

We just got the email about 15 mins ago, superintendents must have just had their meeting.

LMAO. Oregon trail buffalo edition. Jane has died of hypothermia.

When I lived up on the northern border of NY and Quebec I saw temps like that. One night working at the full service gas station on the rez it was -40 ambient with a -63 windchill. Working outside in that can fuck all the way off.

EDIT: Just got the email that my company is going full remote tomorrow. Not that it matters for me because today is my last day until 12/29. Would have taken all of next week off but year end gets crazy and I need to be here.

Can’t say I can ever remember WNY doing a mandatory evacuation of Hoover Beach, and one of my friends used to have a house there.

It might be hyperbole but the models and some of the mets are making this thing sound like it will rival 77’ Several models are predicting almost 8’ of snow with 50mph gusts through sunday night

This is only through saturday evening

I REALLLLLLY don’t like that my house is in the middle of that band.
@LUC1F3R What’s the link for where you’re getting that model?

It takes a lil getting used to but the best site for weather models.
Nam 3K and HRRR have been doing the best this year for lake effect, nailed both of the last two events

Thanks, that’s a really cool site.

EDIT: Damn, didn’t find a model showing less than 20" at my house.
