Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD

Since Sony isn’t the only corporation involved with Blu-Ray, it was decided by the Blue-Ray conglomerate that they should allow adult content on Blu-Ray discs. So they dodged that bullet. Vivid Video has already announced they will release product on Blu-Ray.

Well in that case, I’ll vote Bluray

blue-ray will win, it has much more backing/advertising. you dont see to many movies being released in hd-dvd format and just about all are in blue-ray. blue-ray has much more compacity than hd-dvd and who would not want that?

ah cool some good info guys, i knew i saw that total HD disc info somewhere before but i couldnt find it earlier, good find.

also i thought blu ray capacity = 50gb, hddvd 30 gb. is that right?

Blu-Ray

Single layer: 25GB
Dual layer: 50GB
Highest test: 100GB
Theoretical limit: 200GB

HD-DVD:

Single layer: 15gb
Dual layer: 30gb
Highest test: 45gb
Theoretical limit: 60gb

I’ll take some 100gb+ Blu-Ray disks please

blu-ray.

I say that in the same way I would say the “Sabres might win the cup this year”

Chances are good they will win because the season is going well for them so far, just as blu-ray is on a pretty good pace…

But it’s a long war and a lot can happen.

100+ gig sounds very sexy.

Thanks for the info Josh. I personally don’t care which one wins. I already have a HD DVD player, and when I get a PS3 that will cover Blu Ray.

Sadly, I think HD DVD will win for the sole reason that it is cheaper

Damn. I’m going to pick up a Blu-Ray writer soon I think.

I’d love to know how much the PS3 is pushing Blu Ray sales. I’m guessing quite a bit.

why? what do you need to store that large and never overwrite?

but then again back in the day no one could ever possibly need more than 16k of memory.

Agreed at this point it looks close to settled, it’s about time for me to start a movie collection.

All of the HD Video footage I take :gotme:

BlueRay>*

with porn going to be on there…all of the ps3’s with them blueray will win…and man i dident know sonys sales were beating hdvds by that much

gooooooo blue-ray

i didnt realize those files were that large.

oh yeah. I think recall in the NYSpeed DVD thread Onyz said he went through 600GB of footage?

how will sony’s marketing attack the natural association to the “HD” term.

people beat over the head ALL DAY with HD everything.
camcorders, radio, tv’s etc…

it will take an amazing campaign to win out over the non stop HD advertising.
just becasue a technolgy is good, does not give always it an advantage.

they will have to actually “sell” blue ray.

Did you read the article posted at all? And like I said before, when I hear an old guy in an electronics store ask about how what he needs to buy to play blu-ray discs, I think they are doing a good job of marketing the name.

like any good nyspeed reader… why would i read anything beyond part of the original thread.

one old guy asking about it on his own is good…
i still think it will fall down to the distribution system needing to inform people
of blu-ray. the letters HD sell themselfs.
