bov induced stalling

Hi everyone,

I have an open atmosphere BOV and when i coast to a stop the car wants to stall. I’ve heard there are some remedies to this stalling without having the re-route the plumbing or adding computers.

Thanks for the input.

The ones I have herd of are using a can of carb cleaner and blowing it through your intake and IAC line. It helped me abit but my car still stalls. When I break I just keep my toe on the gas pedle alittle bit.

wtf…

It shouldn’t stall, unless it’s set soooo lose that the air just comes out of it. Tighten it so that ur turbo surges until 5 psi.

maybe you guys should turn ur idle control valve up a little bit, that’s just weird.

Think about it, at idle, ur BOV shouldn’t make a difference because your car operates in vacuum, so it can’t be the BOV.

I see what your saying pavel but its common problem that the bov dose this.

The cause that I was told is that when you are coming to a stop after boosting the bov lets off letting the air out of couse but the maf still thinks that air is in the system. So then the maf get messed up and then you stall.

it makes the car run “rich”

Yes still pumping in the gas when the air has already exited.

I know what it does you silly toufers,

But even if u’re stopping after boosting, the air that is let out shouldn’t be that much, so the car should only be rich for a few seconds, therefore when you come to a stop it should idle normally. Tighten up your BOV and stop driving like a gino.

adjust your idle and the problem should be solved should it not?
My Sr used to stall because of the BOV, but all it needed was the Idle to be raised a bit over stock.

That seems like more of a way of dealing with it rather than a solution.

I dunno.

I’m running a recirc valve on my sr and I’ve never had any problems with idle knock on wood

Very true.

Okay, let me get on topic and give you a solution for the 3rd time.

Tighten your BOV!!!

this is what happens when it’s lose. It can actually blow off at very low rpm and no boost which then makes the MAFS confused. The bov IMHO should not blow off until at least 3 psi of boost. I made mine 5 just to make sure.

If the BOV is tight and the car still bogs there are some other issues with the car, could be something wrong with the TPS (or not adjusted properly), could be something wrong with the mafs, or even the o2 sensor.

thanks guys, especially pavel who took 3 stabs at giving me a solution!

Tightening the BOV will prevent it from blowing off in low pressure/low boost situations. You shouldn’t have to adjust the idle at all. Another solution is to recirculate the BOV.
