They are “prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.” In other words they’re going to give on something, whether it’s background checks or high capacity magazines or something else. They wouldn’t hold a press conference to say “We have a right to bear arms and we aren’t giving it up.” They aren’t stupid, and it’s actually very smart on their end. True, but they aren’t a governing body. Personally I wouldn’t have a problem with a change to the backround check process. That being said I don’t see a change like that having any real impact on situations like what happened in Newtown. Either way any law introduced has to go through the republican held senate and those senators have pro firearms rights constituants to answer to. Anyway whatever happens happens.
