hey guys so ive got a conundrum and a half…
i blew one of my rear brake lines almost right in half a while back and i was about to remove it and replace it but everything is so rusted i can see things stripping and breaking… so could i just use a fuel line repair kit to quickly fix it until i can gather all new lines and conections from the dealer cause i can see everything going wrong…
like would a rubber hose patch with basic clamps on either side hold braking pressure?
like i would cut out maybe 3 inches of line and squeese the rubber tubing on an inch overlay on the brake line tubing.
would only have to last a month tops.
no do NOT use rubber line for brake lines under any circumstances. it wouldn’t even last the first time you press the brakes let alone a month. go to canadian tire you can buy a brake line that is straight with 2 fittings on it for around 5 bucks. or buy fittings, unions and some line to fix it, do not even use compression fittings as these are illegal in canada. brake lines are under extreme pressure 1000+ PSI when fuel line is under around 60 PSI or less.
man, no, theres way to much pressure for any rubber line.
I used compression fittings on my winter beater, but it was always in the back of my mind that my brakes could give out and I could die. But they didn’t so I’ll live till next year.
Hey
The only safe way is to replace the line front to back - get a new one from Nissan or make your own (always double flare brake lines) . The two at the back (L and R) from the “T” are much easier to replace as a unit-remove the whole thing including the T and bend up new lines to match -install as a unit.
borrow a flaring tool from canadian tire its free, u just need to pay a deposit fee. buy yourself a foot long brake hose, double flare it on both ends and fasten then, you’ll be good to go.
and then simply bleed the system.
yea thanks guys… i called up a buddy of mine and well we were talking about the brakes i rememered brake fluid is highly corrosive so the metal and rubber wouldn’t last long anyways… im going out today to just redo the whole thing in the fucking rain… Peace
