Elaborate what is in a craftsman tool kit.
Just a little water. You take a shower every day, right? Spend the 30 minutes to fix your car. it will save you money, and time in the future.
Most cars you just need a socket set and a c-clamp (some cars need a caliper piston tool though). On my Subaru for example, I loosen the lugs, jack up the wheel, remove the wheel, and one 12mm socket removes the caliper bolt. Pry out old pads, push the piston back in using a c-clamp and replace with new, and put it back together. 6 bolts, if you include the lugs.
c’mon man. All you’ll need is a socket set, a breaker bar for the lugs on the tires, maybe a clamp or a caliper tool, and some time.
It is all incredibly intuitive and shouldn’t be that hard to figure out.
EDIT: Look at a DIY on how to do a brake job. A million will pop up.
I don’t get why rain would stop you from working on your car?
I landscape in the rain quite often, as well as work on cars. You’ll just get a little wet, no biggie.
The pad material fell off the backing plate on my grandpa’s car. It will kill your rotors but it is fine to drive for a little bit. Seriously though, if your brake pads literally fell off, don’t you think ordering parts online instead of picking them up that day at a parts store was kind of a stupid move.
he might need a special tool to retract the e-brake if it has been self adjusting properly. I know some pistons screw in that having the right tool makes the job immensely easier. autozone should rent the correct tool regardless.
are you serious? (sincere question, not trying to be a dick)
Just thought I should give a slight update and show what ignoring a worn pad can do once it falls off. Translated documenting my own stupidity…
Caliper fell off?
Thread title sir last month pad fell off took about 1hr of driving total with no pad to inflict the pictured damage this was replaced last month I just getting around to doing core return.
You didn’t change it that thursday, did you…
How many miles are on the car?
Edit: Unless you have over 36,000 miles already this should have been the dealer’s problem…
Changed on the 18th in late evening, I worked from home that day.
edit
To Clarify the pad/rotor was done that day, the caliper ran like that with the new pad/rotor for a week since no one local had the caliper so I was forced to order it.
The braking was fine with the caliper that way but you could tell if it was left alone it would cause serious issues obviously
