Well I brought the Golf to the shop to have my winter tires put on and to have them give the car a quick check-over for anything suspension/drive-train wise then to do an alignment if all checked out. Turns out my front wheel bearing is shot and my rear struts are blown out… awesome. I was surprised that it was just those b/c it has been riding rough lately (real shaky, hard pull to the left) but it just sucks to have to do more damn work in the cold… lol. GAP has the best price on the wheel bearings at around $25 a piece. Is there anything else that I should/will need to replace when I do the bearings??? GAP recommends replacing the hub when I do the bearings if the bearings are noisy… but whats all your takes on this?
Thanks yet again.
for what I bought the car for, I expected small things like this. If the car lasts me 2 year, even with the money i spend (up to $1500 total), it will pay itself off in gas. Plus, the truck needed the plenum and rear tires so in all the Golf is still worth it. That doesnt even take into account the loan payments/interest I am paying on the truck which will hopefully be gone once it is sold.
I think the cam phasers were '04-'05 and fixed by '06.
I already know about the spark plugs and Im getting them replaced in the spring, long before 100k.
