man i must be the only asshole that gets generally aggravated by shitty traffic around here. Its probably because in my mind there is almost never a reason for it and its caused by a general lack of paying attention to the task at hand (driving).
I knew when I saw you responded it was going to be some form of attempting to shit on my point
Yes I have traveled, show me a place I can buy in a neighborhood with the same ammenities and proximity to downtown for well under 100k as I’ve done here.
Yes, state income tax and local taxes are higher here than in most places and the weather isn’t ideal.
The economy isn’t a big issue if you plan ahead. I recieved over 30 calls on my resume after sending it out blindly to 75 companies in the area. I already make more than the median family income in erie county and ive been out of school for less than 2 years. It’s all in the degree path you choose and matching it to the job market where you want to live.
Believe it or not some people (and our numbers are growing) actually like living here and are able to do so without sacrifice. Neighborhoods are turning around and property values are rising in most of the city. Buffalo is also getting a lot more attention and money from the state now that cuomo is governor.
bottom line is if you dont care at all about living in a visually appealing place with history and future potential buffalo is not a great fit for you.
Feel free to move into a development of vinyl sided tract housing in vegas or somewhere, dont let the door hit you on the way out
I think Buffalo has its perks. I just don’t think its anywhere near the “best place to relocate” rankings. There is too many people here to hung up on the history and refuse to do anything to change Buffalo unless you wanna invest millions into a old building or build a grain elevator instead of coming up with ways to make it modern and drawing people who don’t have any connection to when Buffalo was a industrial city.
You wanna live in the city, ya there is a ton of sub 100k houses. Good luck taking on the added expense of sending your kids to private school unless you wanna send them to a broke school district with a 50% graduation rate. You wanna live in a nicer area like North Buffalo where the most people are moving into, you are looking at one story single family homes starting at like $130k. Even then, most people later in life move to the suburbs for better schools and better quality of like when they are out of their drinking and partying phase.
Hell, I am not from Buffalo. I live here and love north buffalo but i sure as hell would never live here full time and raise a family here. When most of my friends stop going out as much, I would move back to Williamsville since “trips to the city” would be a monthly thing and not a nightly one.
Oh no dude. I loathe main/blvd/transit during these times. In no way does my “other places are worse” excuse this mess. Rush hour…get it, we gots to get paid. Its the fucking weekends. ARE YOU ALL GOING SHOPPING? I AM SO CONFUSED? lolll man i need sleep I think
I’ll continue to treat the city like a playground and visit every once in a while.
Yea, there are great areas in the city. Yes, you’re going to spend $300k+ for a decent neighborhood/house.
For $300k, I’m moving into Clarence/Wville/Getzville/E Amherst, paying a little more in taxes and not have to worry about private school. Oh and I can’t throw a rock into the ghetto.
Admittedly, there are times that I drive through Buffalo and think about how awesome it would be to live on some of the streets like Parkside, Middlesex area. I’m barely 26. I don’t see myself thinking this way @ 36.

For what it’s worth, some of the streets off of Main St in Williamsville are just as awesome. S Caygua, Garrison, Oakgrove, Mill etc.
just west of allentown 1 block south of porter. If you’re expecting a completely gentrified neighborhood with large fully updated houses that need no work at all obviously the prices will be higher, but yes its possible to get something well under 100k over here
they are :snky:
Well first things first yall are posting in a troll thread…

Buffalo is over 60% vacant lots downtown, and not too much lower than that in most of the neighborhoods. There is plenty of room to build all the modern buildings you want and keep the old. In fact I would welcome it with open arms.
Thats never going to happen with all the vacant buildings though. Luckily that problem is fixing itself. In 5-10 years when the rest of the vacant buildings are rehabbed we will start to see more modern infill.
We are already seeing a little here and there, mark croce is putting a 3 storey building on that parking lot at chippewa and pearl for example
schools are tough but they are hopefully making strides in the BPS. For sure though charters are getting better / more to chose from and city honors, hutch tech ect are still there if you can get in.
free college tuition sweetens the deal as well. Elementary schools arent bad in most parts of the city as well. Hopefully by the time my kids are going into middle school things will be better. I dont blame some parents from moving out of the city for schools now though.
Be serious Buffalo has rad shit. But it also has definite drawbacks for certain. I can say I love buff but I share much of what Paulo said and much of this is friends and family related <3. I have certainly been to other cities and said to myself that I would love to live in. Alas life is going to be what we make of it and happiness will be differing for everyone! So if the city isn’t for someone, or the burbs, or the south, or Scandinavia for fucks sake its no biggie. Motives, happiness, BS, can’t (to me) be quantified into a metric that makes any city somewhere people should want to or not want to live.
Some of my good friends are teachers at charter schools from grades 1-5. I have heard enough stories to make it impossible for me to ever put faith in that district. Some of the ways kids behave there is not an environment that I want a kid to try to learn and hopefully be exposed to what the world has to offer while the teacher spends 1/2 their time breaking up kids trying to fight each other and teachers. And yes, this is grades 1-5.
man, from what you guys are saying it seems like erie county is way more expensive than niagara county. i love living in pendleton. great area with good school, not much bulshit to worry about other then the yuppies moving in, and short commute to anywhere i need to go.
Same with downtown…You have the Marine drive apartments and then two blocks over the Million dollar waterfront homes. Pretty much the same in all cities.
