Build your own sportscar

im a tech noob what is caster

http://www.ozebiz.com.au/racetech/theory/align.html

caster is your friend… are you running a p/s pump?

what degree of caster are you trying to accomplish?

.

i only read page 4 when i clicked to see updates

excuse me

Nope, anything between 5 and 7 degrees is good. Originally I was going for the “book” amount of 5.3 degrees, but many people seem to find that a little more is better. I set it up for 25mm offset instead of 22. There is some adjustability in the suspension.

In a car that weighs 1100lbs there is no need to consider the extra weight and power drain of power steering.

I ordered the nose and scuttle (dash), so once those arrive it will start to look like an actual car! Meanwhile I have begun cleaning up the welds and seams on the chassis and suspension pieces so there isn’t much progress that can be shown in pics, this part of the build is tedious. One the fiberglass pieces arrive I will post up some real progress pics and the shape of the car will start to be shown.

My nose on the right (the shorter parts are for motorcycle engined cars)…

if u need help grinding welds…i volunteer

wow i wish i had the time and resources to do something like this

Me to, thats awesome!

Well, the frame is 95% done, the other 5% will have to wait until I get the nose and scuttle so I decided to coat the frame with POR-15 while it’s still warm (the stuff doesn’t cure right when it’s cold)

Step 1, degrease the frame (I used Purple Power diluted to 50%)

Step 2, spray the frame with Metal Ready and let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse off and allow to dry. Metal Ready is phosphoric acid with zinc in it, it etches the metal and leaves a coating of zinc, in simpler terms, it galvanizes the metal

Then paint with POR-15, it really looks great once painted, hides a lot of flaws.

One thing to remember when working with POR-15, WEAR GLOVES! It’s not dangerous, but when you get it on your hands, it doesn’t come off. I tried everything, this stuff is awesome.

Damn. Very nice.

lol at the hand shots. thats awesome. i used acid etch zinc primer at work. that shit ruled. you CANT scratch the paint down to bare metal.

where did you buy the acid etch primer? i want to get that shit in a spray can

waht this man said

It’s made by POR-15

It comes in a bottle, I just poured it into a spray bottle and sprayed it on, then rinsed it off.

^wow, good stuff, but $23 for a 15oz spray can!! guess its worth it though…THANKS!!
