Well, I tracked my S2K and now im hooked.
BUT i really dont feel like “ruining” my S. Beating on it or maybe crashing it, etc.
ANYWAY, my friend and I want to build a track car…just for the track. Gotta be RWD and cheap parts too. Only thing I can think of is an old 240sx…but are those parts cheap?
What do you guys think…someone point me in the right direction
There are a lot of good old FWD and RWD cars to use. Though considerably narrower on the RWD side.
240sx
Mustang
F-body
Though the last two can be tough to be competitive in, but it’s done and done well by some. Plus a fucillo huge aftermarket. Despite the stigma they can be made to handle good even with a live axle.
Yes I know, I know you said RWD. If you broaden to FWD you have a ton more choices
Civic
Older Integras
Focus
Nissan Sentra (The older SE-Rs are an excellent choice)
Dodge Neons (Mainly the first gen)
240’s have a lot of drift hype inflation right now when it comes to pricing in my opinion. i’d build a fox bod as long as no one would see me driving it off the track.
Where the hell do you get that logic, enlighten me.

After going to TMP in my underpowered but very well handling Fiero. If I was going to build a dedicated track car for going out and just having fun at track days, it would have more HP than a Miata.

And how many miatas have you raced against on an open track…?

Look, I don’t want this to turn into a pissing match like every other thread where someone disagrees with you and it’s related to motorsports. He asked for opinions and I’m entitled to mine just as much as you are to yours.
To me it sounds like he’s looking for a cheap way to get on a track and race around, not looking for the lowest possible lap time in door to door racing. In my opinion a Mustang is going to be more fun there than a Miata, even if on some tracks the Miata might be just as quick.
Besides that, for all the bashing people do on Mustangs about their handling, they can be made into serious track machines with the right suspension setup.
Perfect example… which do you think would be more fun at a track day. Tina Reaves Miata, or Kurt and Sam’s CP Mustang? Please note I did not say which would be faster, or specify a certain track. I just said which would be more fun.
Build something for a class, or buy something built for a class that way you can go racing if you want and dont get stuck with a “track” car with no value.
