“Fuel cut” is a safety feature that is intended to protect your motor from too much turbo boost. The factory ECU keeps track of the pressure inside the intake manifold, and if that pressure goes above a certain level (around 18-19 psi on most cars), the ECU will turn off the fuel injectors. It’s just like shutting off the motor momentarily.

Okay, makes perfect sense…that’s actually what the stock rev limiter in fuel injected Mustangs is too (and why it’s so dangerous to hit the rev limiter while spraying nitrous on a Mustang).

A “fuel cut defenser” or “FCD” is a device that overrides this saftey feature and will let you either raise the limit that fuel cut is set, or will eliminate fuel cut altogether.

Good information, thanks! I assume that in place of the fuel cut you’d modify the ECU to instead cut spark?

If you’re tuning for more boost, typically you would tune the ECU to just dump more fuel in at higher boost levels, or retard timing. Most turbocharged factory cars come with a knock sensor which will pull timing if the motor starts detonating.

Good stuff man- thanks for answering my questions.
