I agree with all of that. But it holds true for the server as well. If the customer is a complete dick then the server probably isn’t going to be as quick to bring food and take drinks.
When I go to resturants I always am nice to the servers, understand when they are busy that it make take extra time to deliver an order, and I always try and leave the table as clean as possibly. Which includes stacking the plates for easy carrying and wiping off any crumbs or liquids on the table. I used to work in the food industry so I know what it’s like.
Not to be a dick to you either since I understand you work as a waiter but tipping is a choice, it’s a courtesy, it is NOT mandatory in any way what so ever. Doesn’t matter that you get 4.85/hr but there is no law stating tipping is mandatory. It is implied, but in no way shape or form is it a guarantee.
I have only not tipped a two times.
Once when the lady was just a complete cunt and took 25 mins to come get our drink order and the rest of the meal took this long.
and then when I walked out after waiting hour plus in an empty resturant for pancakes.
I think the whole tipping as a percentage of the bill thing is stupid. Does a $30 dinner require 3 times more work than a $10 dinner? It should be based on the size of the party, the amount of shit they ordered, extra effort required/special requests, and the quality of the service.
Tipping because the service was good or not should be based on a lot of things. Tipping less than 20% because they’re busy and understaffed is stupid and counter productive. And tipping less because they’re ignoring you because you’re young/minority/ordering cheap food is just perpetuating the cycle. I tip 20% after taxes always, unless I really really hate the server and the service was terrible.
I know when me and any of my friends go out, we just leave a big tip. Usually alot more than 20%. I used to cook and was so sick of hearing bitches complain about no tips that I feel bad for people that work with them and have to listen to that shit.
I worked in a restaurant for many years so I hate cheap fucks as well. However, I decide how much to tip based on the service I get. You suck at your job and I am not satisfied then you will not get a good tip. You do a great job then you will great tip.
I love hearing people complain about mandatory tipping.
I even heard it on NPR.
Servers were calling in and complaining. “If you can not afford a minimum of 20%, then you should not be going to a restaurant to eat”
That really annoyed me. If I was entitled to a 20% commission just for serving a bunch of ass hats all day, I would change careers.
edit: The famly and I used the cupon Friday at the boulavard mall Fridays.
Used the coupon here in Tx. Worked great! I left the server another coupon as a tip, as I figured they didn’t know how to use a computer or couldn’t afford one.
why do they think people have to tip them for what they do.they do things for the public and expect to get tipped? dont we all do services for the public in some sort of way? so we all should be getting tipped
Its funny when servers like our resident asshat 1sikbwm thinks it is our job(the customer) to tip them when in reality it is their job to make sure i have a great meal in their establishment and then i feel compelled to thank them for showing me a good time with a tip.
Mr. Sikbmw what is your name so i can speak with your management and explain to them how you are telling people to stay out of their restaurant unless they tip well. I then would bet your two dollar an hour job turns into hanging on hold for unemployment.
