Buying a 1999 3000gt VR-4, changing tranny to automatic...

yeah it was just an idea on the vette tranny, i wouldnt buy anything without doing the research. Im not an expert at this stuff by any means so im trying to learn the possibilities. I didnt think the tranny swap would be so difficult.

Yea we are talking about a mess here. It wouldent really be worth it!

I mean no offense by this. but man the hell up and tell her to drive a fucking stick or get a different car. this is stupid. period.

i dont doubt your mechanic skils but IMO its just trouble.

um ok. I was just letting him know of all the expensive ass parts he might have to replace since the last yr they sold em here was 99, meaning most have high miles ect. true the 3600lbs reference is mostly irrelevant since its just gonna be his girls ride and not a project or race car, it does play apart in gas mileage and drivetrain stress to move all that. Im my opinion these cars should only be bought by people who have descent knowledge of them and are prepared to do work on them. by it if you want though.

stinkbox please shut up for 2 reasons. 1. Everything you’ve said is wrong so far. and 2. All the opinions about it being a 99 with high mileage, is coming from a person with 2 cars from 1990.

You mean to tell me that working on a vr4/3000gt isnt expensive/ and pain at the same time?? Chances are also for a car the is 10+yrs in age its probaly going to have some decent miles on it unless it was a weekend only car. I like those cars myself but cant see the average person buying one of them, especially trying to put a vette tranny in it.

Seriously, we’re all so sorry that you’re all butt-hurt because someone attacked your precious 3000gt/stealth platform. Do you think its just happenstance that everyone here thinks those cars suck? Weak trannys, too heavy, a pain in the ass to work on, and a bitch to find parts for. Please go return to 3ksi or whatever the fuck it is, and circle jerk over the few fast 3000gt’s that actually exist in this world.

^^^ ^^^

i love me a good circle jerk…hook me up son! :wackit:

Expensive not really. A new short block from a dealer is only 2300. Race heads cost the same amount. Pain in the ass to work on, if you dunno how to turn a wrench. Decent miles? 120k is about average I see on models from 91. I see them all the time under 100k. A vette tranny will never work unless your a few people who have the 5L stroker. I know 100’s of people who daily drive turbo models its not as bad as people think.

butt hurt? No sorry thats you after your dad had his way with you. Now people telling someone incorrect info? Yes I will argue that. Oh yeah and the few fast is pretty much every turbo model out there because its not stock. Heck 400hp is only 100 bucks away with them.

Fuck you asshole! what false info have I provided here. please show me proof. Wow did I say anything about my cars. as amatter of fact my integra has 4340982304 miles on it and runs great, as for the shelby a woping 112k. I see your fine choice is a legend so go ahead and talk shit douche. Anyways, those cars are a pain in the ass to work on, ask anybody. The dealers hated them. Eww 400hp $100 away, thats cool until you actually go and drive it and everything fuckin breaks. They are heavy, unreliable and expensive so go fuck yourself!:finger:

What a clever retort.

I can only imagine the blistering 13 second time slips a 400hp car weighing 3600 pounds will generate.

 And how many 3000gt’s ran in any IDRC or NHRA event last year? And of those how many actually won any type of class? :ugh2:

LOL gotta love pittspeed everyone is so hardcore LOL.

shitbox go learn to read on the web, firstly they are 3800lbs+ not 3600. Also if changing the rear plugs is so hard for you get a custom intake manifold. Oh better yet hard to work on? Try deleting all the crap like emissions and get rid of stock intercoolers and theres plenty of room. As for pricey? No they aren’t if they were how would so many freaking 16yr olds be building them up? Oh and trannys are fine transfer cases are a default mess up by mitsu/dodge thats y its under recall and gets fixed FOR FREE.

Last serious reply. 1320 they can run high 12’s STOCK. and they weight 3800lbs.

Oh and IDRC and NHRA Oo0o the “big” classes Sorry they are cheap like a rustang or camaro. I just know I see them running 9’s and 10’s.

Now you both can go fist yourselves

I no 3 people that had 3000s that were under 22. 2 were turbo the other was n/a.2 of them junked them because it costed way to much just to keep it on the road let alone mod it.The other was bank rolled by there parents so it was able to stay on the road.Iv never seen a stock 3000 Vr4 run 12’s.wtf r u smokeing?iv seen countless vr4s with some mods run high 13’s in 50-60 degree weather.

:bsflag:

Read three pages of this and all i got so far is that Greekpower is a fucking douchebag :dunno:

You were the one that came into this thread like the 3000gt know it all hardass. If you had just voiced your opinion and backed it up with legit facts we wouldnt be in this mess.

I’ve driven and raced against 3000gt TT’s. And actually about 5 years ago I almost bought a 97 3000gt vr-4. Then I read up on how much of a pain in the ass they are, and watched how bad it sucks changing trannies in one.

I will side with you in that they are one of the best looking cars ever produced, but too much hassle for me that comes with it.

Dont get me wrong, I’ve seen 1 or 2 fast ones. I think it was altered atmosphere that had one running 10’s a few years back.

But seriously in the world of twin turbo cars, they are lacking. For the 1 or 2 3000gt’s you show me running 10’s, there are 100 supras running faster with less mods.

And for the last comment, you can suck the unborn children out of my fuckrifle.

1320 10’s are VERY common now. evo16gs will put u in tens hell 15gs with a good driver put u at 10.9

also noah u little twit, go read a damn webpage hell better yet go read anything. A good driver can put them into 12’s stock. They do 13’s all day stock even with a shitty as hell driver who drives old ass junk domestics.

also 1320 Altered was known to do BAD work to cars, hence why they sold there infamous orange stealth with 220k invested for 18k haha. But as far as the supra comparison thats like comparing apples to oranges, Look at the aftermarket a supra has compared to anything else. Only thing that rivals it is civic/intagra aftermarket. So that alone plays a HUGE roll.

but transfer cases as well as trannys are built proof now so no one will break them not even the 1300awhp 3000gt

I race one at a NDRA event

Joe Fisher Honda Civic .663 11.398 133.94 Winner
Jesse Ashbrook 93 Stealth .712 15.275 72.89

Other then that they do not show up…

http://ndra.nopi.com/eqraces/dsp_eresults.cfm?vshowid=72&vclassid=2C-Power%20Street

you raced a SOHC v6 go you!

One reason you won’t see them in NDRA is because of safety. How many people want to put a cage and all the other bs rules on their daily driver? 80% of the fast cars are just daily drivers so a full cage and sometimes a shoot, no one wants that on their car.
