Buying tires

type in all your gears and it will tell u the mph for each one.

the bias ply are DOT leagal and from what i heard real streetable

what is this thing a jetta?

what the hell do you have done to it?

there are tons of gear calculators out there, all do pretty much the same thing

bias ply M&T (ok now I know what you mean) none of them are made in my size and if they are, they are like 10.5 inches wide (I have more issues with wider tires, then taller ones)

my car is posted here for further details: Kilmer420’s Project Jetta

I don’t recall suggesting 315’s… I do remember mentioning a first hand experience with both the tires to help make a decision though. I’m sorry if my story involved a different car with different tire sizes, but it was still comparing the tires to one and another.

The et street bias ply’s are dot legal… I wouldn’t suggest driving to the track with them though. IMHO they are just for people who want to stay on the street class but want to run a really sticky tire. If you are running these tires on the track only, I would stay with the slicks. Why run a less sticky tire?

I should just get slicks, but for some reason I am hesitant. I guess I won’t be able to street race if I run slicks :eek3: not that I do that anyway, but these crap-years can’t handle 15psi even…

Why wouldn’t you suggest running bias ply on the street? Can they handle any kind of conditions beside hot and sunny? Or do the tires just wear that quickly?

Val, I’d get 24.5" slicks. 26"s are gonna be hell on your tranny (02J?). What clutch you running?

How many passes are on the 22’s you have (they’re for 15" wheels, right)?

I kinda need a 26" tire, because of my tranny being a closer ratio then a regular 02J, my 4th is 1.15 so it’ll top out @ close to 118-120 on a 26"

02J with a little bit of work and a diff. we’ll c how it performs…I am more worried about my axles then the tranny honestly :frowning: (need to do something about that)

Yes, 22X8X15…I got them from a friend with my kosei’s k1’s (he said 6-8 passes on an N/A VR6) I haven’t touched them since, been a year maybe longer…I can take some pictures if you are interested

Well, looks like I am going to buy 24.5X8.5 or 26X8.5…any rule of thumb on power for the different size? I know a 26 is a pretty big slick that my tranny might not like.

not really as long as your tranny can handle it

they do sell 25" tires too

Do they sell a 25" slick?

Here are the ones I have now. They got about 10 passes on them if that. Jegs has em for 155 a piece, so how about 150? Unless you got 24.5 or 26 by 8.5 you want to trade me?

So, I sold my current 22" slicks…now shopping for some 24.5’s ANYONE KNOW A GOOD PLACE OUTSIDE OF SUMMIT/JEGS etc etc…looking to make a purchase pretty damn soon (like this week)
