CA18DET Engine Sometimes Doesnt Rev Up, Gets stuck at around 1000rpm…

sometimes it runs perfectly, then all of a sudden, i hit the gas and nothing happens it wont rev up at all… then it kicks back in and starts reving again… ive got stuck on the road twice now, i cant figure it out, what can it be?

check your coil pack grounds, clean the ignitor ground wire

same thing happened with my rb, the ground #1 coil ground was coroded so sometimes it would be fine and sometimes it would run like shit

could also be the maf…
If its touchy than it’ll run in shit mode if the signal is off a bit. Could be a weak connection so knock it a couple of times and see what happens. Good luck though!

Most likely could use a z32 maf…
But i have gotten an SR running with a maf off a 350 CI chevy…
GM maf’s are awesome so if you have to go grab one out a junk yard but be forewarned it may not work aswell, never tried it on a CA

tried another maf, and still no go, and now the car is worse… wont even start… anyone know any good shops near burlington that i can bring the car to, or can anyone fix this on here?

Had the same thing with an SR that i was working on. Replaced everything (maf, sensors, relays, ECU) and than gave up and gave it to a buddy who took it to an import engine speacialist in toronto. Its been there for months and last i heard they replaced 3 ECUs and even more electrical. Symptoms include, shitty runny at idle or no running at all lol. Often symptoms worsen when MAF is wiggled and sensors tapped to check for continuity.

Sadly i never heard the end of that story so i can’t tell you exactly what helped. But last i head they rewired the engine harness and finally got it to work, just not perfectly.

Anyways, check for grounding and open circuits and ofcourse frayed wires. Otherwise its guess and check with alot of differant things in the wiring. Check too if the fuel pump is priming. That would be step one for me.

thanks man, i checked the fuel pump and lines, there is gas going to the engine, and it has a spark at the spark plugs… im lost at this point.

Fuel, and Spark… just need air (logically)

If you are getting a spark and fuel than i would investigate issues perhaps in the intake or valves… maybe not opening or all of them got stuck randomly (highly unlikely). Wouldn’t be a bad idea to just take it to a shop and let them have a look cause its odd that you would have fuel and spark with not even a bang. Injectors are opening at the right time yeah?
