1000 watt would be needed if I was running 2 of these retardedly big video cards. Not very many builds call for 1kw…that’s actually pretty insane overkill 9 out of 10 times.
I run 1000w
Yeah but you’re a maniac.
I have a 700w currently but it only has 2-3 pin video connectors and I need one to be 4 pin. MF’ers. LOL

The card spec calls them 3 and 4 pin though there are 2 row so I’d call them 6 and 8 pin. I dunno why they don’t call em what I would.
I guess I could get the dual 4 IDE pin to 8 pin adapter. I don’t wanna wait for another freekin part though and I doubt anyone locally has the adapters. Ideas?
PSU size calculator: http://educations.newegg.com/tool/psucalc/index.html
per that I need a 696w psu, if I ever go to dual video cards it jumps to 856w. annother HD adds 50w…
if you ever want to overclock it that goes up too.
Are there any card reader/usb 5.25" panels that dont have EVERY damn card ever made on there? All i use is USB and SD. I hate clutter and un-used things. I might just make one
bump.
here goes after a little over clocking by the programs that came with the mother board and gpu. I also set the ram to 1580 in the bios.
Thanks for all the input on this thread from it’s original post. Without starting a debate on who knows more and which setup rocks more than the other, I need to ask a general question.
In general, not much has changed from my earlier and original post reagrding slow computer speed and high memory usage, and occasional lockups. The only thing which seems to be helping lately is shutting down the system nightly instead of letting it drop off into sleep mode. Highest memory usage spikes still seem to occur when poking around in internet explorer on multiple web pages. In a nutshell, I would like some suggestions for a new system (based on logical recommendation from Tradersbase, thanks man) to pull the trigger on a new system (desktop, not laptop). I’ll list below what my needs are in hopes that you can help. I don’t always believe that more $$ is better, especially when it comes to computers. Geeks / pros can laugh all they want but my emachines have lasted me longer than I would have expected for what I paid. Have at it. Thanks in advance.
Current:
Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz
Memory RAM: 2.00 GB
System Type: 32- Bit Operating System
Use for small business and minimal personal. Use these programs frequently simultaneously:
AutoCAD 2000i
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Word
Internet Explorer (I typically have numerous tabs open going between email and various web pages for product pricing and specfications.)

Why don’t you just toss more ram in? going to 4Gb should be cheap
Tried that some months ago. Local shop (who I trust as they have been good to me for years) tried but say it’s maxed out.
Quit using internet explorer? Maybe try chrome or firefox.
what’s the MOBO? or the model of the eMachines tower?
If you don’t know try using Speccy http://www.piriform.com/speccy
If it’s really maxed at 2gb that just solidifies my PM that you should look to a new computer.
I also 2nd the suggestions to get off IE if possible, it’s garbage.
My recent post was asking for suggestions on a new system. I don’t feel like my current unit owes me anything so I was just asking for some suggestions without a limitless spending budget. Thanks again.
A decent computer is pretty cheap these days AND you can write it off as a business expense.
Oh, you can bet I will be writing it off as a business expense. If at all possible, I was hoping for some links (or product model numbers) to actual purchase suggestions to a setup that would fit my usage needs that I had described earlier. I’m not a gamer, nor a computer genius. Just looking for something in the budget that gets the job done. Thanks in advance.
The computer I built for my fiancee, half was written off because she uses it for Mary Kay. You shouldn’t have a problem with that if you are using it for work. Did you post a number amount yet? I can help you price something out.
