since the new motor before my cam install, my car burned 0 oil. I have always ran mobile 1, 10w30 through it…then I had the cam/valvetrain/ported high pressure oil pump and Im running mobile 1, 5w30 and the car is burning oil. Where its going is beyond me. It doesnt smoke on start up, idle, driving, WOT…nothing. Their is also literally no carbon build up on my exhaust tips compared to my other motor where I had to clean up my exhaust tips every 5 days from them turning black…
I was told by the guy that did my tune/cam install I could need a catch can and its blowing through my PCV into my throttle body and its just burning it up…
when I mean the car is burning oil, I mean half a quart every 1000k.
I took off my TB and shined a flash light to see if inside my intake manifold was coated with oil and it looks like it is, but its hard to tell…if it is, it is flowing through the PCV into the TB.
I know the LS1’s are famous for burning oil so im not that worried about it…yet
It didnt smoke but there was tiny little drops on the ground when i would leave it sitting. I replaced the intake manifold gasket and no more leaks. Not saying that’s what it is. But my car stopped smelling like oil as well.
mine doesnt smell like anything other then gas when cars are behind me because I have no cats
also, everything under my car is bone dry…you havent been around on this site long enough to know but I had a brand new LS1 long block from GM installed a few months back and now I have 13k on it…cam has been in for 3k.
get a better oil that dont break down and is thicker every lsx motor i see is about 1-2 quarts low between oil changes if ya run syn stop at the shop and get our b-g oil its awsome i dont burn any in between changes and its about what mobil 1 costs and is way better …avoid royal purple as it is garbage seein as ya only run it in the summer or warm weather run 20-50 in it
You should be fine. Prolly pcv. Man i want a Ls1 so friggin bad. I better start saving $$$$. But I do like my mpg right now since the gas prices are going up. But friggin LS1’s rule.
ls1’s do burn oil, especially after header swaps, but like brett said, check your pvc valve, if it bothers you that much upgrade to an ls6 pvc system or get a catch can, all that oil is going back into your intake
does the pvc have a baffle on the valvle cover ? i had this problem b4 in my striker motor. valve cover had no baffle and at high rpm’s would drink oil like no tomorrow.
so i built a baffle to stop opil from splashing towards it and it solved the problem. this is a good cheap quick fix.
