Did you even click on the first link that search returns you moron? It’s from cbp.gov, aka, the people in charge of these requirements. You talk of believing stuff you see on the internet… well I can guarantee that getting the requirements straight from the people enforcing them will be far more useful that reading 2 pages of posts from nyspeeders.
Then, if you want even more OFFICIAL details you can click on the document requirements link and read the PDF straight from cbp.gov, where it explains you’re safe with a DL and BC until AT LEAST June of 09.

We were so thrown off by that fact that it was happening that we didn’t even think to get his name. When he finally let us go we sat there in silence for a bit until the shock went away. We were also coming back at like 2 am and were really too tired to even comprehend it at the time. it was also a few months ago now, and even if we did I don’t think any of us would remember it now.
Just tell him to get his passport, that goes for everyone else too. I’m tired of waiting behind unprepared people at the border. At Detroit the guard actually thanked me for having proper ID.
When you have a passport it takes less than 5 seconds to clear customs.
