So i am looking at parts for the sentra (salvage title and will need to be checked out by NYS) and I notice some parts a CAPA certified and cost more then others that are not.
Wondering if 1) has anyone had luck with parts that are not CAPA certified
and
2) does NYS require parts to be CAPA certified/OEM when bringing a car from salvage to road worthy again.
I mean what about body kits, im sure those are not CAPA certified
No NY does not require parts to be capa certified, some insurance companies do. Bodykits are def not capa certified. As long as you deal with a reputable distributor such as Continental you should not have fitment issues with their non-capa stuff.
Not sure if you have ever used any aftermarket stuff but the majority is def not junk(not talking about body kits because they almost always suck quality wise). I do agree that in a lot of cases used oem is a good option though.
I was a metal man at John Holtz for 2 years. So yea, I’ve seen enough. Insurance companies always try to put non-oem shit on and most of the time they fit very poorly. A fender that needs a hole enlarged isn’t the worst but when body lines are off or headlights don’t fit inside a fender opening that causes big problems as now it has shoddy body work when all you did was change a part.
