Car dies after I give it gas

Hey,

So, I was driving to work one day, and the car started puttering around 3-4k, so i took it out of gear and it was fine. however everytime I give it gas it would die or drop the idle. it smells like gas. I think it is the fuel pump? Does anyone know what the problem is or have any idea what it is?

Thanks

Did it start suddenly?

It starts and idles perfectly. It will dies only when i give it gas. also if i give it a little gas it will drop the idle.

But did the issue start instantly , my personal experience with fuel pumps is you’ll notice it getting worst over-time .

yeah, it happen instantly, and it looks like is getting worst.

is there a way to test the fuel pump?

Pull the trunk carpet and inspect the fuel pump especially if it smells like gas.

Cheers

MAF

Yeah, I’ve been getting bad mileage as well. Is there anyway to test the maf?

240’s hate fags thats why it wont go anywhere… lol kiddin

prob your fuel pump man, just take it to a shop.

I had a similar thing happen to one of my cars and it turned out to be a pooched catalytic converter. But no fuel smell though.

i was driving hard and my hot pipe popped off and the motor was not getting the correct boost that is on my sr20 application and that same problem happened… what motor do you have?

wires or plugs. fuel smell could be unburnt fuel.

Is it leaking gas? Rotten fuel line would cause that… but I’d think you’d have noticed as it would leak a LOT.

Low pressure? bad fuel pump or regulator perhaps or catalytic converter clogged. Have you checked injectors? Rings may need to be replaced.

Well at the very least you should be able to check if the gas tank hoses are ripped without much trouble.

Is it auto or manual? Has it been over heating? Are you sure it smells like gasoline and not burnt tranny fluid? Does it stall in every gear? Do you not feel much power from revving up in every gear or just a certain gear? also, shift cable/linkage not fully in can mean slippage during acceleration.
