Car has been sitting for a year

I have a 98 altima that i just parked last March when the axles started going bad, hasn’t been started or even moved from where its parked since probably June.

I know that the battery needs a jump, maybe replacement and it needs an oil change before i run it. What else should i look at/change before i fire it up again? I’d like to get it running again and fix it up.

Before I start it i’m planning to change the oil and was thinking of seafoaming it.

it also has less than an 1/8 tank of gas in it, i was planning to make a few runs and fill up my 5gal carry tank, dump in a bottle of that STP fuel conditioner, and then try to start it.

pull the spark or fuel and crank it a couple seconds to try to get some oil circulated. When it starts let it warm up fully and peak around for leaks in the rare case that any seals may have “dried out”. Otherwise go to town.

Also check to see that the tires haven’t dry rotted.

put new tires on it a few months before i parked it. My main concern is having a mouse jump out at me its parked right next to a huge field lol.

You think i should seafoam it or would that blow out any dry seals? Should i run it for a few weeks and then seafoam it, or just leave it be?

dont bother with seafoam unless you find a reason for it.
that being said it couldn’t hurt to run injector cleaner, old gas gets gummy but I doubt it’ll impact the injectors much.

ok cool, sounds better than i was expecting.

good luck man. if it was in a field there is really good chance its full of mice stuff.

i had a car parked for 2 months and it was fine. Then I moved it to a different spot because they had to mow. Apparently it was over a mouse hole or something and they chewed wires and got into the blower box for the heater within 2 weeks.

well its not in a field, its in my apt parking lot which bordered a large section of woods. Unfortunately they just cleared the whole area for a new subdivision, so all the critters that lived in there went someplace new.

you will probably end up needing brakes if it sat that long. rotors don’t do so well up here. hope you didn’t have the ebrake on the whole time!!!

nah, its an auto so i highly doubt the ebrake is on.
