Car is not getting spark.....

its 1993 ford escort i think its a 1.9L and the car hesitated so i check the car for spark and only 2 out of the 4 cylinder has spark.
Does this mean the ignition coil is shot? and a new one is need? or is there something else wrong? like the ecu? etc.
I plan on changing out the ignition coil but i dont want to buy it and then i cant return it becaues its a electronic item you know.
Thanks in advance

well, what kind of condition are the plugs and wires in? check those first.

if its a single coil and 2 of the cylinders have spark i would say its not the coil. if its dual coil it could be. I dont remember what this system looks like is it dis? or does it have a distrib?

if its a dis yes but u may need a ignition control module

here a picture.
it looks like this

how would i test the spark plug wire? switch the wires with the one that are working? that might work huh?

is there a crank position sensor on that car?

my g/f had an escort, when it was getting shitty spark it happened to be the CPS.

i might have a coil pack for a 2000 laying around, if it is the same u can have it, it will rule that out at least

seriously go to autozone a new coil is probably only like 20 bucks, that is most likely the problem, oh ya and get new plugs and wires to about 20 bucks as well

coil is 50 bucks most likely

i doubt its the wires they may need to be replaced anyway but it sounds like coil pack or module you can test the wire with an ohm meter you should have in the range of 1000 ohms per foot of resistance. crank pos sensor would cause a prob with all cylinders not just 2 is this intermitant? or constant on the 2 cylinders

ok, now that i see the pic, it seems to be a VERY similar setup to the focus. its could very well be the coilpack or the ICM…BUT, on the focus the wire loom to the plug FOR the coilpack is poorly routed with not nearly enough slack, and the wires wear right through the casing right at the base of the connector for the coilpack, and then the current jumps between the wires creating some pretty funky sparking symptoms, i had that issue with mine and had to go get a pigtail at the junkyard and solder it in with some extra slack and it solved my problems, and only cost $5.

but def. try switching the plus wires around to see if anything changes.

There is no spark in cylinder #2 and #3 basically if you look at the engine the farthest left #1,#2,#3,#4 farthest right. #1 And #4 gets spark nothing out of #2 or #3

So basically check in this order?
Spark plugs
Coil packs
Ignition control module
Crank position
Am I missing anything?

fixed

Sweet ill do that today
