I am having trouble with my 1990 240sx. I haev power from the battery but none of that power is getting to the engine and turning it over. Anyone know what the problem could be? I am checked connections over and over and i just can’t figure it out… Has anyone else had this type of problem and fixed it?
i’m having that exact same problem right now with my 180sx. i put it in the shop today and asked him to tell me whats wrong when he gets back to me i’ll post the problem
tried boosting before it doesnt work i think you may have blown the relay switch for your ignition coil like i said i’ll let you know when my car gets back
What i ment was an alternator, battery, and starter test. If it is clikcing it sounds like your starter solenoid. While being cranked get a long piece of wood and hit your starter. It might help. If not just get a new starter (about 80 bucks from my work). Also try boosting it.
Im going ot take the starter out and get it checked i think. My problem is that the starter is next to impossible to get at. What is the easiest way?
So you had the same problem as i did drifterx? man, that would be a great help if you got some info from your mechanic. I don’t think my starter woulda went out like that, it has to be a relay. Damn wiring confuses me…
With my burned out starter…the only way I could start the car was to take a stick and hit the starter…after that it would start but it would like barely start…mechanic said the brushes or the 2 solenoids were gone…werent contacting…or something…so hit it with a stick…its a temporary fix but eventually it wont work after hitting it with a stick anymore
Get the battery checked before the starter. Might be getting weak and not putting out enough juice to the starter, or your posts may need cleaning. Might not be getting good contact. Take the battery to Partsource or something for testing.
Then check the starter. I’m pretty sure they come as one piece (solenoid built in). The easiest way to get to the starter is from underneath, but you have to kind of feel your way around to get all the bolts. I think there was 4 on mine. One was real hard to get to because it was at the transmission/firewall/back of engine area.
If that doesn’t work, then check the alt belt for wear and cracks.
