car shut off on qew

hey guys

this isnt my 240, but my 1994 dodge shadow just up and shut off on the highway last night.

no idea why.

i was pushing it pretty hard for an old car 140-160 km’s but i dont imagine that would do anythign.

she just wouldn’t take gas anymore out of nowhere. i was pushing the pedal down and nothing. so i coasted off to the side of the road.

just before i came to a dead stop, oil light flashed on for a sec. i checked the oil and it was bone dry.

any suggestions or ideas why this happened?

thanks

you probably burned all the oil going that fast, older engines tend to burn oil when they are high in the rpm’s. You may have seized it?

No oil = boinked up internals

What does it do when you turn the key?

after some enw oil and a few attempts at turning her over she started fine and drove without any problems.

but the car shutting off like that was a first. thats why im trying to figure out how it happened so i can avoid it again.

koz is right, i think you burned all the oil away, or some sort of no-oil sensor detected and shut it off preventing internal damage, just keep an eye on the oil

i had the same problem with my old shadow, running and then just turning off for random amounts of time if i drove the crap out of it i would o through oil, as for it turning off , mine did the same thing , it has something to do with the bottom of the distributor there is a plug there (two wire black plug) on the bottom , not quite sure what it does but i had a mechanic fix it and ther car ran great after that.
