l4b: As an agent, you have to work for a company. They hold your license. I work for my Moms brokerage. It’s not just cut and dry with RE as most people think.
This man is wise beyond his years. +rep Swing in soon bro, it’s been a long time.
+1
I see a couple of you are familiar with what what CSX is and I can tell you first hand on how the company really is because I work there as a Freight Conductor.
This is a job you can go to WITHOUT a college education and make $70,000 a year EASILY in your first year. I can guarantee you a few things. You will work nights and weekends and you will have NO say whether you like it or not. You will miss important events (birthday parties, holiday events, funerals, etc.). You will be away from home A LOT and you will spend A LOT of time in a hotel. This is a job where you MUST be a safe employee! Their rules are strict beyond strict and the smallest thing you do wrong could be your last day on the property.
My personal experience so far with the company is I love working here. The money is unreal. I work a lot of hours, i’m away from home a lot and the job is not for everyone. Your lifestyle will change after you start working here. Your friends and family will never be able to understand why you work the hours you work and how the company can call you whenever they want, only railroaders understand it.
If anyone on here is struggling to find a real paying career should consider working here. The railroad is at an all time in earnings year to date. The railroad is the cheapest way to move freight and gas isn’t getting any cheaper so you can probably figure the rest of this statement out. THEY ARE HIRING LIKE CRAZY! They need people, including Conductors! There’s more to it with getting hired and getting through all of your training in order to become a Conductor. If anyone has an interest and wants to know more about it, feel free to contact me through a PM.
This.
I have spent numerous Christmas mornings at 4AM at work, as well as working New Years Eve into New Years Day, the pay is completely worth it.
Where are you based out of, Selkirk?
im sold, sign me up
Yes. I’ve already missed Thanksgiving and New Year’s. It’s nothing that caught me off guard though. They tell you ahead of time that you will miss important dates and holidays.
Isnt Travis saying hes missing events now so this would be the opposite of what hes looking for?
:thumbup Train Dispatcher checking in!
Does it get better as you move up in the company?
A buddy of mine works for csx- Andrew Hanley… Know him? He’s out of Selkirk too.
Just with any company, you need to put your time in and build seniority. There’s so many different jobs with CSX that once you’re an employee, you can move into other departments and fields.
I work in the transportation department so eventually when I get enough seniority I can become eligible to try to hold regular jobs that have more of a set schedule, weekends off or I can turn to Management. Right now I work horrible hours, i get on average 5 hours of sleep a night. I feel like i’m constantly working but it’s definitely worth it in the long run.
no, i don’t. do you know what he does there?
My friend works in the yard at Selkirk - Robb Behrens.
Like you guys said well
Stupid money
Stupid hours.
I would love to do this, someone get at me with details via PM!
for sure my man. Will do if I get a chance, my lil one takes up 100% of my free time.
Bingo. I’m making GREAT money right now, but put my life on ‘pause’ on Sunday evening-Friday evening. Hate it, not for me. I ‘work to live’…not the other way around.
Go on their site and apply. Already looked into it.
not really. girlfreinds dad has been with CSX for quite some time now. works ALOT. but they take pretty good care of you and the benefits/retirement is good stuff.
csx.com go to careers and you will need a couple yours free to fill out all the stuff and take the aptitude tests.
I’m not bashing on CSX at all, it’s definetly a great company to work for and if I could have gotten a diesel machinist position I would have taken it. RailRoad retirement and benefits are amazing compared to something else and if you don’t already make 50k plus a year you would be crazy to not apply to CSX. If I wasn’t married I would consider actually going to the interview for utility worker, problem is I doubt my marriage would last if I was gone at night all the time. Comes down to what most important and money isn’t always it. Best of luck Trav
HUGE +1 to this. As long as my bills are paid on time, Shit doesn’t even matter to me anymore. My family is worth way more than a fat paycheck.
